The game is fun.

It's a rooty tooty point n' shooty, designed around the concept of "Go out and kill some NPC bosses, loot them for their bounties, and extract with the bounties." Players can kill other players to prevent them from killing the bosses (or themselves, the players), or they can wait for them to kill the bosses, and then kill the players to take the loot off their cold corpses. It's a beautiful thing, filled with various horror elements where most of the jumpscares will come from players themselves just lurking around a corner, hatchet held high above their head like a slasher film waiting to be unleashed.

Most of the reviews you'll be seeing on launch day is people complaining about micro-transactions. These reviews are complaining about purely cosmetic in-game purchases that can also be acquired with in-game earnings and currency, and have no statistic effect on your weapons or hunters whatsoever. These microtransactions are straight purchases, and not done through a loot box system. I see very little to complain about.

The biggest issues right now are most likely optimiziation and bugfixing. Audio 'tearing' can be a pain on some setups, as will lag and pop-in of some enemies or textures. I can offer no real excuse for these other than they are the constant growing pains of a consistently awesome game.

Gunplay and maneuverability for some people may raise some concerns - but know that you can rebind and remap almost everything. I'd recommend using your first few freebie levels just to mess around with sensitivities and control schemes to see what works for you - of note I'd recommend rebinding voice from left alt to something else, otherwise you'll be alt tabbing if you are trying to talk to someone and look at the map (also rebind your steam overlay key from shift tab to something else, otherwise you can't run and look at the map; or just rebind the map key off of tab I guess, if you wanna be that way).

This is seriously the most fun I've had in ages, and I suck at the game. The kills are fair. And the revenge is all the sweater when you just say 'Screw aiming, I'll machete them to death'.
