It depends, I really liked Kingdom of Fear - it's a pseudo autobiography.

You can read Hell's Angels, which was his first book that made him famous, but it's not Gonzo. A lot of HST's stuff is political, Fear and Loathing on the campaign trail is really good - so is The Curse of Lono.

You can't really go wrong with him, though.
