Simply amazing experience.

I was a bit late to the party on this one, being that I had fallen out of love with the series after the 4th in the series (Code Veronica nearly threw me off the brand completely but I endured for Leon’s best outing in my opinion).

Resievil 7 BH is a very different title to that most seasoned RE fans would expect, it is a first-person perspective horror driven title with less emphasis on action (especially in the first 3 quarters of the playthrough) and more terror and evasion than I remember even in the originals (amplified further in VR so I have been told).

The story centralises on the disappearance of Mia, the main protagonists Wife who went missing a few years ago. Ethan (You) receives a message from Mia saying, “Stay away” and of course, like any good husband, he ignores this completely and goes looking for her immediately. You reach the location this message leads you too, the delightful and honestly massive Baker family residence, where things appear to be become very twisted and dangerous as you search for you spouse, uncover the secrets of the house and survive the encounters you have with its inhabitants.

The graphics hold up well at the point of writing once I got the settings right. The V-sync wrecked my initial 30 mins as all textures were blurry and the hair animations were pixelated but I soon fixed this by switching it off. This is one title you definitely want darker on brightness, very dark, unless of course you are not interested in simulating the true horror this can achieve, which would be a darn shame.

The soundtrack and SFX are spot on, they are all very chilling and often lead you to think that something is about to come and kill you when in fact all is well, providing a constant oppression that never lets up. The voice acting is okay, you will probably feel that some of the facial animation that accompanies it seems a little off at times, but this is forgivable and does not steal from the immersion.

Handling wise, it is better on game pad for sure, I had a lot more fumble moments using KB and Mouse then I did on my Xbox pad when using the item interface and the dexterity in combat was much easier to master.

Replayability is there to a degree, you can ramp up the difficulty and use your first play through experience to make a mockery of the higher difficulties. Once you understand the mechanics of the games and its denizens, you are in control near fully, just mind out for the ‘Molded’!

Overall a very positive experience and honestly I had to take a few breaks to muster the courage the continue in certain sections of the game, not for lack of quality but I genuinely couldn't face what was lurking ahead at certain points. This added heavily to the feeling of achievement once I progressed through the parts of found particularly terrifying. All being said RE7 BH is not the hardest game I’ve played in recent months being that I initially completed it on Easy and have ripped my way through my hard play through extremely fast but definitely the most terrifying game I've had the pleasure of trying in quite some time.

Loved it! 9/10
