1st off I love this concept of F2P games. Play it for free, if you like it feel free to donate to the devs & receive some DLC with your donation. This lets the game speak for itself, builds a fan base & allows the devs to grow & stay respectable in the eyes of the gaming community.

After watching the trailers & getting an idea of what the game is, I was all in. I enjoy a good point & click adventure & this looked like a quality release. Everything is well done, except the most important part, the puzzles. I was extremely disappointed to find out that this is nothing more than a trial & error, spam all options & stumble your way through our adventure game, type of point & click. This is really nothing more than a game that beats you over the head with nonsensical stumbling blocks. I can't recommend Cayne. As much as I want to for the F2P principal & the work that went into it, Cayne just fails where it matters most, it's gameplay.

While I can appreciate the concept of "My Paper Boat". I think it fails to hit it's mark. Here's where I think the majority of the mistakes are made:

1) While on the casual side of things, this idea seems brilliant. You have a nice relaxing setting & a very innocent somewhat nostalgic pass time. The beautiful settings turn out to be very aesthetically noisy & a bit gaudy. It's hard to just play & relax. I find myself squinting just to focus. This problem is just compounded by the the water effects, mainly waterfalls. When you get water on the camera you get the expected result of image distortion. The problem is that when the setting is already irritating, the added distortion is not welcome.

2) The controls need a bit of tweeking. While using KB&M some of the controls function like you'd expect in some areas, but not others. For instance if you highlight "Game Modes" from the main menu & press "Enter", highlight 1 of 3 modes & press "Enter", now highlight a map & press "Enter". The "Enter" button will work the 1st 2 times. The map selection forces you to click on the map with your mouse. Why do the rules on a button change? Now try to use that steaming heap of crap called a Steam Controller & you add an entire layer of tweeking, because nobody could be bothered to deal with it beforehand.

These are just 2 problems I found in 30 minutes of play in "Regular" mode. I haven't even tried the other 2 modes, but I doubt these issues are not intrusive there as well.

Contrary to what a lot of negative reviews are saying. I ran this on a Win 8.1 machine & had no issues with fast forwarding. I'm not saying that an issue doesn't exist. I'm just saying this ran perfectly fine on my machine.

Perfectly fine, with a couple exceptions. I had a crash to desktop right after finishing the final battle. I received the message "No more memory". This is odd as balls because my machine(like most out there today) is absolutely murdering the requirements. Memory wise I should have been able to run this game simultaneously MANY times over with little to no impact to my machine. Yet I still came up insufficient. This is just a minor annoyance, because on my next attempt, everything worked smoothly.

I also encountered a few spots where the camera decided to be a complete d-bag & force me into a top down view or bottom up view, with no in between. This is not the smoothest of ports. & this issue was only compounded by the fact that I was using the piss poor Steam Controller.

Putting those few issues aside. BG&E is a great game. If you have the option to play it on a console. DO THAT. If not this is a passable port if you can stomach a few minor irritations.

Seems like a great game, but it's unplayable with the Steam Controller.

This would be a lot more enjoyable if the Steam Controller wasn't utter trash.

Can't go 3 minutes without a crash to desktop. Highly unstable.

This is an unplayable mess.

Basic, bland, boring, barebones Minecraft clone. Infact it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, when I compare this to Minecraft. Voxelized reminds me of "Doug Kinney" clone #4 from Multiplicity. This is just a super degraded copy of a copy of a copy of a copy. If you're like me & already own Minecraft. Don't bother with Voxelized. The only thing that Voxelized does that Minecraft doesn't is cards(actually card drops have been disabled) & an achievement.

I wandered around for a half hour & realized:
1) There was no day/night cycle. In fact the sun is just stationary.
2) Item blocks despawn almost immediately.
3) I found nothing of interest anywhere. All I found was hills & all of these hills were made up of the same block (snow covered dirt). I had to dig into a hill to find snow blocks. What the logic is behind finding snow mainly underground is beyond me.
4) I never once found water.
5) You start with a sword in your inventory. Yet I never once saw anything hostile. In fact I attempted to find something I could kill. I then realized I wouldn't find anything on the surface so I decided to dig. I walked down to the lowest spot I could find within in eyesight & began to dig straight down. I got about 8 blocks down & fell into nothingness. This is not a bug. There literally is a limit (& a low one at that) to how far you can dig before falling into nothingness.

There literally is nothing here. Your time will be better spent elsewhere.

Very fun little platformer, good art style, cool music, about 30 minutes long, 8 quick achievements, & 100% free. What's not to like here?

Just do yourself a favor & check this jawn out.

***Save often, alternate saves & be careful of where you save*** - This will save you many headaches.

Outcast 1.1 is a great game. I'm enjoying the hell out of it, with a few exceptions. If you follow the advice above you will limit the only real issue I have with this title. There are many hours I've lost between my own negligence as well as where the game decided to shaft me. Below are a few examples of what I'm talking about.

1) When I 1st started the game. I played for about an hour, never bothering to save. I accidentally aggro'd a group of enemies that overwhelmed me & forced me to start from the beginning. (I thought I had learned my lesson)

2) After many hours of play without issue. I got complacent. I went 3 hours & made a ton of progress. I had finally reached Okaar & did a fair amount of wandering. It finally dawned on me that I had not saved in a while. I quickly saved & continued exploring. Shortly after making that crucial decision, I died. You may think I dodged that bullet, but you'd be wrong. You see I made 3 mistakes here. 1st I neglected saving earlier to another file slot. 2nd I had about 50% health. 3rd when I did save, I was standing in what I thought was a safe spot in a blow dart maze. I thought it was safe because when I stood up to save I wasn't being shot at, after I saved I still wasn't being shot at & I even made my way out of the area before I died. However when I loaded my game I was immediately hit with a dart & killed. This happened every time I tried to reload that game.

3) Every now & then the game randomly closes to desktop.
----------------------------------
With all that said, I recommend Outcast 1.1. Sure it's a bit on the ugly side & there are uncanny valley violations everywhere you look. But due to the age of it's source, this can be forgiven. The gameplay is still rock solid. The BGM & voice acting is pretty damn good. The SFX not so much, but passable. The story is very Stargate-esque, but enjoyable nonetheless. Yet with all it's flaws Outcast 1.1 is scratching all the right itches. I haven't come across a game in a while that could make that same claim.

This is well worth the $5.99. Even more so if you get it on sale.

Way to short & the extreme definition of linear. With that said The Static Speaks My Name only takes up about 10 minutes of your time, costs nothing & offers a surreal / morbid experience. There is no reason not to check this out right now. My only gripe is I was left wanting a little more.

Play it while you're waiting on that long download.
