I've taken my time to review this game as, when it first released, there were a lot of bugs and the game was often unplayable. I was patient and the devs have done a lot of work fixing the vast majority of those bugs. They've put out a few DLCs and the Enhanced Edition which has made some changes to some of the chapters as well as added some much needed quality of life improvements.

Having never played the pen and paper version of Pathfinder, I can't comment on how faithful the PC game is to it. What i can say, though, is that I've enjoyed playing through the game and the DLCs. I've tried a multitude of character classes, some successfully and some not so much.

The story is enjoyable enough and I liked feeling that I had earned the right to manage my kingdom. Expanding the building additional villages and towns was fun and I liked dealing with the various issues that arose. The devs have made some good changes to the kingdom management side of things which definitely improves it.

Combat-wise, there's been a lot of people asking for a turn based system but I am happy enough with the real time system they have. The AI isn't amazing and you'll often find yourself having to micromanage your companions if you want to get the best out of them. Sneak attack is hugely overpowered so tends to find its way into many of the character builds out there.

The companions are a mixed bunch. Some of them are fantastic (Nok Nok!) and others are very forgettable. I personally enjoyed the Wildcard DLC companions.

If you've played anything like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc, then chances are you'll be able to jump straight into Pathfinder and enjoy it. I'd recommend the game in the state it's in now and hopefully there'll be plenty of dev support moving forward. I'm still hoping for some additional classes to be added to the game!
