If you are on the fence on buying this game. this review may help you.

Firstly im a massive fan of the orginal Ufo: Enemy Unknown series back in the ealry 90's and ive never played Xenonauts 1 (there are some negative reviews comparing it to the first one) This game is a spiritual Sucessor to Xcom, This stays true to that formula with a few changes here and there, I mean it even mentions Xcom in the game when you set a difficulty, I did the tutorial as recommended and it seemed i knew it all from the many years of playing the original Xcom Games.

There are some differences, like not being able to research alien weapons to then use them, I thought it was a bit of a bad decision but on reflection, i think it makes you research and manafacture weapons based on alien tech, - Im still undecided.

There is no requirement to stock up on ammo to replenish your squads and interceptors,

The difficulty is very 90s and unforgiving and the ironman mode adds that little bit more of a challenge.

Graphically it doesnt set the world on fire but i tend to think the graphics style goes with the game style.

Now for me, its been running fine (i have a high end machine) BUT i have noticed that loading screens take a lot longer than i would expect (not sure if thats my machine or the game, im installed on SSD). and ive found as ive progressed into the game im getting freezing between turns.

One thing id like is the "hidden movement" screen like in the old games, at the moment im staring at where i left the camera on the alien turn, i can hear gunshots and glass breaking and i cant move the camera during their turn, Id much prefer it like the old game.

One thing, Its good but i dont think its £34.99 good. maybe £25 or so.

TL:DR,

Its Xcom but not, if you were a fan of the original games and felt a little let down by the Xcom Reboots then i would recommend this just not for 35 quid!
