Those poor souls are trapped in the ninth circle of Hell, being forced to smile and dance to the same song, forever trapped.

I keep veering off to the left. I close my eyes and I've done a 180°. Can push myself off of rocks, sand and walls with my oar. I feel like Indiana Jones when looking up at the trees and vines in the jungle area (Costa Rica level). Worked up a real sweat when trying to paddle out to a distant island (which was inaccessible). Got the Thalassophobia achievement. 11/10

I Love This Game!

First of all, you cannot change your character's appearance. Second, yes, the game's combat system is frustrating. Third, I wish they would pause combat while I'm in the middle of a dialogue scene. And fourth, your character starts out as a weakling, even on the easiest game difficulty, but that is typical of pretty much all of the Piranha Bytes games. The Gothic series, the Risen series, and now Elex. (I actually found a King's Sorrell in this game!) This is a game that requires patience, diligence and lots and lots of quicksaves and quickloads. Fortunately, the game allows you to load from multiple autosaves and quicksaves, which is *VERY* helpful if you accidentally make a bad choice, or quicksave yourself into a corner without thinking (guilty!).

There is so much to do and explore. The scenery is gorgeous! Many of the sidequests will be too hard at first, so you need to focus on the main story to level up your character, if possible. The sidequests will always be available, so don't feel like you have to tackle what may end up being literally impossible tasks due to the enemies' unfairly unbalanced stats. Don't expect the enemies to always be easy to defeat, because the combat difficulty is not balanced like other games, nor are the enemies themselves. Your enemies' stats will not increase with you -- they are static; fixed. So the stronger your character gets, the easier it will be to defeat enemies and vermin.

I love having the ability to fast travel back to those teleporter "shrine" things, and while the jetpack is extremely cool and helpful, I do wish we could move around in a larger area while using it. (I don't mean to say that I wish it lasted longer. I mean that it doesn't take you very far, horizontally.)

Your character starts off with stats of 10, which you can choose to upgrade, along with the other stats, but you won't be doing any damage to anything with a stat of 10 strength. It will be *several* hard-earned upgrades until you can put down even the most common, non-"juvenile" creatures by yourself. And speaking of doing stuff by yourself, you really are going to want NPC companions to follow you, because when they're not just standing still like useless statues, they will do more damage to the creatures than you will during the first several hours of diligent gameplay time. So definitely get someone to follow you along the way, and do not tell them to go back to the camp until you are able to properly handle yourself out there.

I am only 17 hours in so far at the time of this review, and I can't wait to get back in. I haven't been this excited about a game in a very long time.

This Game is a Blast!

I feel like I'm actually in a real dogfight (without the real world danger) with VR support! This is amazing! I haven't been this excited to play a fighter jet flight sim since I was a kid, playing the old F-15 Strike Eagle arcade game in 1993 at a mall.

This game works perfectly with my CH Fighterstick USB and my Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro USB joysticks, and with my Oculus Rift S VR. There is a little bit of a learning curve to setting your joystick to your liking, though.

Speaking of Virtual Reality, while this game does offer VR, it does not have support for your wireless VR gaming controllers, so you can't reach out in real space and toggle switches and buttons in the cockpit. This game isn't like VTOL VR or Flying Aces: Navy Pilot Simulator. If that is what you're expecting, skip this one.

The menu is the worst, most confusing part aspect of the whole game. First, the left mouse button doesn't do anything. You have to press the SPACEBAR key to make a selection. Then, you have to figure out how to navigate your way through the briefing, the hangar, press Spacebar to skip cutscenes, then you have to make a weapons loadout selection before you can take off.

I had to select "invert" under the pitch axis where my joystick was just to get it to work like a real joystick, and not like a typical console gaming controller. It took me a while to figure that out, but that was the answer. Otherwise, my joysticks work fine. I used the desktop mode to set my joysticks, because there are no presets for various joysticks in the game, and while it is possible to make adjustments in VR, it's just easier to use 2D desktop mode to set everything to your liking.

I will say that, for a while, I could not get the joystick to work at all. I reset everything in the game, and there was no response, but once I restarted my computer, everything worked fine again.

All in all, this game is a gem. Without the VR support, it's still fun, but it's basically just another Ace Combat game. It still needs to be polished a bit, but boy, is it fun.

Reminds me of House of the Dead, only creepier.

You do not move around in this game, at all. You can turn around, but that's it. You stand in the middle of an intersection of an underground train station and shoot at zombies, zombies with guns, mutants and hideous creatures that look like they were from visions of demons from Hell. This game is all about survival.

I don't normally play zombie games. I don't like ugly, dead, rotting things, but I decided to give this game a try, and I genuinely enjoyed it. I played on Normal difficulty (not trying to give myself a heart attack), and died half a dozen times before finally finishing the game (yes, the game has an ending).

It was kind of fun punching at the zombies, but if you're going to go that route, then perhaps you should play standing up in an area free of clutter so you can turn around naturally and punch more freely, instead of having to use a thumbstick on your gaming controller. When punching the zombies for extended periods of time, I noticed myself working up a sweat and breathing heavily, even though I was sitting down in my gaming chair, and my VR lenses kept fogging over. I accidentally kept hitting things on my computer desk with the controllers in my hands while frantically punching at things that just kept eating my head. Using the gaming controller thumbstick to turn around affected by ability to kill the bad guys. Whenever something moves to the left or right of you, you have to follow it, and when you're using a thumbstick, it's even harder to keep up and stay focused, especially when it keeps going left and right, back and forth.

I would pay real money for a full version of this game.

It's a Thief style game for VR, but it's not Thief. As always, stay in the shadows, and avoid the light.

There is an in-game save/load feature, but you have to press the menu button on your left controller to bring up your little book where you save your progress. Grab the quill and point it either at save or load, depending on what you're going to do.

You can climb walls just like you would go rock climbing. Some candles are too high up for you to reach, so climb the nearest wall, reach out and extinguish the candles with your hand.

The guards' AI is pretty darn good, so slow your pace down a bit because they will hear you. And just because you've flattened yourself against a wall in the dark does NOT mean that a guard will not see you, if you are at his 12 o'clock (staring right at you). So be careful. You may have to repeat certain aspects of missions, like constantly throwing pottery across the room just to get a very irritating and vigilant guard's attention, only to spend the better part of an hour getting caught again and again. Be patient, be smart. Have fun.

I actually really like this! At first, I was having problems with getting the controllers to respond to the different scenarios, but that is no longer a problem now. This is a great way to introduce Grandma to VR. (Just make sure she's sitting down first.)

Highly addictive once you learn how to play. I have chicken that I baked, and it's getting cold because I can't quit this.

Get a joystick.

If you can look past the antiquated, cartoonish graphics, this flight sim will provide you with hours of challenging fun. One of my personal all-time favorites, F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter 2.0 is the sequel to the ground-breaking 1988 stealth flight simulator F-19 Stealth Fighter. If you like stealth games, this one's for you. Attack Saddam Hussein's palace in the Desert Storm campaign, blow up a submarine pen in the North Cape, take off from Key West, Florida and attack targets in Cuba, storm the Iron Curtain in the Central European campaign, take out (virtual) targets in North Korea, Vietnam, and many other scenarios. Each mission is different; no two missions are alike. Choose between the more realistic Lockheed version, or play Microprose's version (bullets, two more weapons bays, and Sidewinder and AMRAAM air-to-air missiles).

The game comes with the manual (for free) in PDF format. The manual will automatically be downloaded into your "\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\F-117A NightHawk Stealth Fighter" folder when you download the main game itself. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view it. http://get.adobe.com/reader Also, the control instructions are included. The file is called F-177A Key Control Card.PDF and is located in the "Bonus Content" folder. It is a necessity for people who are unfamiliar with the game's controls.

You can use the DosBox DAUM mode for better compatibility with more modern computers. Press Ctrl+V to turn off the shrill engine sound, if it bothers you. Also, to get the game to perform smoother and play faster, go into windowed mode (Alt+Enter) and press Ctrl+F12 several times until it gets up to 15,000 cycles. Make sure you do this before you calibrate your joystick at the game's startup menu. Then you can go back into fullscreen mode (Alt+Enter), if you wish.

Buy this game. Seriously, it's worth every penny. Plus, you'll have it on your Steam account forever.
