Not a fan of the puzzling + slow pace (and it took me a while until I found out I had to use "-window-mode exclusive" on launch options for the game to run smoothly, for some reason), but I can't *not* regard this as a beautiful work of art. The ending makes it all worth it. Try this if you want to transcend your typical videogameyness.

Boy, was I late to the party here. Several times did I try to play this over the course of many years, and Uplay would always cause the game to freeze so indefinitely that I'd just give up. Tried it again last month and it worked, hurray me!

I missed out: it's really good. Playing this on an RTX 3080 with a 4k LG C9 really made it look quite beautiful and didn't make me feel I was playing a 9-year old game at all. Thoroughly enjoyed the shooting, the crafting, the hunting and being the world, most of all. The island truly is something to wonder at and to explore. I hardly ever wanted to get in vehicles (waterbikes being the exception), running through the terrain was that much more satisfying. The only thing that did feel a bit dated was the low sound quality, but that's on me/FUplay.

Story-wise (no spoilers), if you're like me and never played this game, you've been seeing and hearing about Vaas all these years, so the expectations were high. I feel like they could've gotten much more out of him, as he literally eclipses all the other characters in the game. Ah well, still worth it.

Also, you eventually get to see some boobs. Nice touch, Ubisoft Montreal.

Such a great surprise. I almost uninstalled it in the beginning. Dunno, wasn't feeling it. Then I came back, gave it an honest shot and sort of fell in love with it. The car gameplay is great, the violence is ever-encompassing, but the best thing about it is the world itself, the setting. You don't really get this feeling in other games, even they are going for the post-apocalyptic vibe. Just driving around in the bleak of sandy nothingness is so unique to this game, it creates something original. And when the storms come, just like in the movies... my expectations were low and my mind was blown. So devastating, so intense, so well done.

I definitely played it a bit too late (hi, 2021) and it still suffers from all these current-day open-world repetitive tropes (conquer tower here, reveal map there, rinse 'n repeat), but you still have fun doing it. Just don't bother collecting all the hidden scrap, like dumbass yours truly, here.

What a great videogame successor to the Mad Max saga. Ozzy accents all the way, ♥♥♥♥ yes mate!

So much potential wasted, it could've been a true masterpiece, especially story-wise. Some design choices are just baffling. It also probably has the worst music in all of the FF games, the band with the acoustic guitar and harmonica was driving me out of my mind.

...That said, I always love jumping in a new Final Fantasy world. The graphics are amazing - driving through the map and just admiring the landscape at 4k never ceases to amaze me. Combat is acceptable, even if I prefer the turn-based variant (FF7 Remake achieved a better balance). Eng dubs are cringy at best, so I went full weeb.

I can't regret playing this, I just wish it was all it could've been.

Ridiculously good. One of the best single-player FPS I've ever laid my hands on. And trust me, I've played a few.

All the oomph you could need from the gunplay, roaring heavy/death-ish metal soundtrack blasting your ears at all the right times and some delightful gore to fill your cup. Just a masterpiece all-around tbh.

The zombies are kinda loud, but what are you gonna do? :p

Definitely worth a playthrough, even though the gameplay is rather repetitive. Great graphics, despite the animators skimping out on characters' faces >_> Terrific setting overall and I enjoyed the music, sound design and voice acting.

Pretty cool to see a game developer from France put out something as high quality as this. Looking forward to the sequel.

I never write reviews, but I figured this game needed one.

After trying it for free for almost 19 hours this weekend, having a ton of fun with both the hunters and the monsters, making friends and starting to climb on the competitive side of things, I've concluded that this is a great game and I'm about to buy it (the Monster Race Edition, too).

Their initial marketing was a trainwreck, yes, but it would seem they're really trying to redeem themselves. Current Steam discount is 50% - that's AFTER the 50% price drop from the original €60, so you can get the game for a quarter of the price it launched at only 6 months ago. People need to get off the hate bandwagon: €15 (or €30, in my case) is more than a fair price for an experience as awesome as this one turned out to be.

Those of you who already have the game and would like to have a new but decently skilled hunter/monster on your list, please add me :)
