I'm gonna be honest. This game is kind of silly. It's fun, don't get me wrong. But the basic premise is silly, and the focus on your avatars'... assets is significant in light of the dev teams' declared goals on their game's website. It's not deep strategy but again, it's fun, especially if you don't take it too seriously.

There was once an extremely fun and engaging game called The Secret World (TSW). This... is not that game. Secret World Legends (SWL) is the hollowed out carcass of its predecessor masquerading as an "improvement." SWL took the soul of TSW, sucked out all the fun parts, and ♥♥♥♥ the remainder out as a loot box Skinner driven abomination.

Take Civilization 5, give it a godawful color palette, bland and uninteresting nations/leaders, a narcissistic view of self worth, and then surgically remove anything resembling depth. What you're left with is A) a huge mess, and B) This game.

Somehow the design managed to take systems that were already silly and/or boring in Civ 5 (trade routes, for example) and make them even worse. Add to that "quests" triggered by various buildings or encounters with aliens (civ barbarians) where there is almost always one clearly and obviously superior reward choice and it just turns into... well more of the same sort of mess that I mentioned up in that first paragraph.

This is a beautiful game. Timeless story told simply, and I'm not ashamed to admit it made me weep openly.
