A bit of a warning of what you won't see on YouTube videos about this game, due to YouTube content restrictions: This game focuses very heavily on bodily fluids and urination. You can create a game where your character doesn't have to eat or drink, but there's no escaping the continual need to urinate. They even show the yellow stream on screen. Come on, guys - is this 4th grade again?

I just learned last night, from the game discussions, that the "drunk piss" (laying about in gas cans everywhere) can actually be used in place of gasoline. So if you really feel like drinking the various forms of alcohol which are strewn about in the game, you can (I guess) relieve yourself into your car's gas tank and drive on that.
That's not really what I was interested in this game for. Nor for the multitude of sex toys which are strewn about everywhere. The pornography studios, the sex toys... it largely ruins what I thought would be a game about driving.

Suffice it to say: the developers seem to have some real issues, and they go to great lengths to make you aware of those issues. I just want people to be aware of the perverted/porn side of the game that they don't show you in the advertising videos.

I saw in my Steam library that this sequel (or prequel? It's not really clear yet) to Albino Lullaby was to be released today. I woke up about 3am from insomnia, immediately downloaded and started this game.

It does not disappoint! Very atmospheric, very bizarre/trippy with the story of Alice, the Grandchildren, and Grandmother, and even more development of the role of the Walklings.

This is clearly a labor of love for Ape Law, and I highly recommend this game. Of course, you'll have a much better idea of what's going on if you play Albino Lullaby first. Steam lists this game for only $14.99, which is a steal! Get this game!

I hate to say that no, I would not recommend this game, but it currently feels like a disjoint collection of ideas without a real flavor.

On one hand, you're fighting guys in gas masks strongly reminiscent of WWII chemical weapon storm troopers, while the game has you adding ultra-cutesy cuddly creatures to your train, which become your pets and you have to feed them. Yes, you read that correctly - you're fighting off really nasty guys in gas masks, while looking for food to feed to your ultra-cutesy pets.

Is this game made for WWII veterans, or is it made for 6-year-olds? The game progression into the ultra-cutesy-cuddly vomit makes it difficult to continue playing this game past this point. I really think the developers need to sit down and determine what demographic they're targeting. As it stands, I feel like it will just drive everyone away.

I'm hoping to be able to reverse my opinion and recommend this game before too long.

Do Not Waste Your Money!
As another reviewer pointed out, about 60% of the gameplay has been deleted by the new devs, and the game map is now only about 30% its prior size. The wrecked/broken habitats which you could repair and rebuild appear to have been totally deleted from the game. The "Blood Leaf Forest" region now has no trees! They were all deleted. Basically, most all the gameplay has been deleted in the interest of labeling the game as done. I think "done and buried" is a better description.

The quests/story are still a bit short, but the game-play is really a blast! I'm hoping that more story and conquest goals get fleshed out over time.

Even without any goals to pursue, just repairing my drill-ship, stocking up ammo, and annihilating the robots is very challenging, and a whole lot of fun.

I like the gameplay, and particularly liked playing co-op with friends a few years ago. Now, the dev says that the update to Unreal Engine 5 caused some huge issues with multiplayer. So be warned - the multiplayer option is disabled, for now. The dev says he's working on adding it back in, in the future.

The "team" which adopted this game is only one guy. He says he's not making any money off this game, but is just doing this for fun. He did mention that some parts of the code which he inherited are quite a mess. With just one person working on this, I think we can be patient and not demand that building parts snap into place exactly where you want them, etc.

So, all things considered, I'm changing my post and recommending this game. Hopefully, we'll see multiplayer added back in pretty soon.

The game opens with a whiny, accusatory Greta Thunberg-style attack on the people who were the victims of the nuclear attack in the first place. So if you really like hearing whiny idiots deliver nasty accusations, then you'd love this game. Personally, I'm going to go for a refund.

This game is awesome!
It's Half-Life meets Dead Island meets Bioshock meets System Shock. Half-life for the dimensional rift motif, Dead Island for the weapon crafting recipes, Bioshock for the ability to research enemies to fight them more effectively, and System Shock for the ghosts and the strange voice that talks to you.

A Massive Fix of the Dead Island Mechanic[/n]
is that you're not penalized for leveling up, like Dead Island does. In Dead Island, you hit a new level and instantly you have stronger zombies coming at you while your weapons are suddenly much less effective.
This problem doesn't happen in Desolate. They picked the best features of a number of games, combining them into a real hidden gem. I strongly recommend Desolate to anyone considering a new game.

Disappointingly anti-social: Whereas in KF1 the players would often talk on the mics and were pretty social, the KF2 game characters do so much pre-scripted useless jabbering that the players almost never talk on the mic. It's terribly disappointing as a "team" game.

Leveling up is disappointing: In KF1, the beginning player started with the 9mm pistol, and that's it. No class weapon. The better weapons were prohibitively expensive to the level-0 player, and leveling up reduced the price of those better weapons, bringing them more into range. As the player achieved higher levels, they would spawn with progressively better class weapons, and those weapons had significant value when sold at the Trader, helping the player toward attaining the strongest weapons for their class. This is entirely missing in KF2, as players seem to always spawn with the same class weapons, no matter the level. Further, the spawn-level weapon only sells for $100 at the Trader, removing the benefit enjoyed in the original Killing Floor.

Found weapons almost useless at Trader: In KF1, a found weapon would carry the same value that a purchased weapon carried, and could be sold for significant cash. In KF2, the only weapons to be found are the base class weapons, and they only sell for $100.

Class weapon selection seems anemic at best. The original Killing Floor had more variety in the end, so I hope that Tripwire updates the game with more weapons. Why didn't they include the M32 Milkor Multiple Grenade Launcher from the original Killing Floor?

Very much less ammo to be found on maps than in KF1

Silly-sounding screams from the zeds. You remember when you were in grade school, and they had the Reading Corner at the local library? Imagine a silly-sounding scream from a librarian reading a halloween book, sounding like a drunk old man who just spilled hot tea in his lap.

Why have a 3D printer instead of the Trader? In KF1 the Trader hut added a sense of reprieve from the tension of the levels. A burning candle in the midst of a dark and cold night battling monsters out on the Farm.

Although fancier graphics, over-all KF2 is proving to be very disappointing. Rather than improving on the fun of its predecessor, it seems to have stripped out many of the elements that made KF1 so much fun.

Valve seems completely unable to create a stable game for Ubuntu. This game has been crashing in Ubuntu for the last three updates.
