Let's get something out of the way first: Before you even get to begin, you are given the warning "This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed."

Twice.

So many reviews before this one have pointed this out, but it bears repeating because it simply cannot be stressed enough: Do not take this warning lightly.

That said, let's begin.

Doki Doki Literature Club is going to be the next Undertale in the sense that people WILL tell you to play it blind, refuse to tell you what it's about and be completely obnoxious about it. Bear with them, and if the concept of playing a visual novel isn't an immediate deal breaker, trust their word and play this. What do you have to lose? Except maybe your sanity because seriously, do not ignore the warning.

It's free, and especially when this is considered Team Salvato has put a tremendous amount of work into making this game the experience that it is. So download it and give it a whirl. And when the story takes its many turns, do your best to weather the storm. You will have questions, I sure as hell did, but there will be answers.

There's very little else that can really be said. I was not prepared for what Doki Doki Literature Club had to offer, but after I had played it and slept on it, I can't help but respect it. It's an incredibly competently created game - especially the sections that would normally make me think otherwise.

TL;DR if visual novels aren't an instant dealbreaker and you can stomach some disturbing content, you owe it to yourself to experience this game.
