200 hours in with a level 30 Veteran, level 30 Ogryn, level 16 Psyker, and level 12 Zealot. Long story short: I suggest this game if you like this genre, if you like 40k, or if you watched some streamers play it and it looked fun.

Pros:
-Really tight combat. Melee combat is weighty and visceral. Range combat is very unique compared to other FPS and feels fitting of the Warhammer 40k universe. And there is decent enemy variety.
-They really paid attention to detail when making this universe come to life. The soundtrack is on point as well.
-The zone/mission system is clever. This goes into the above point. Your missions will overlap rooms or places you have been in previous missions if it's int he same zone. IMO this really grounds the world as a persistent place.
-There is a huge amount of intricacies to learn about how weapons and stats work. The community on youtube and discord has been great at breaking things down and figuring things out.

Cons:
-Needs more zones/missions
-Needs more explanations (and better written explanations) of how stats and mechanics work. We shouldn't have to rely on youtube.
-Needs more story, even if it's out of game/in the lobby.

Conclusion:
I can't tell you what you should think your $40 is wroth, but it has been totally worth it for me.
I'm excited for more content as they release over time as this, like or not, is a "Games as a service" model game.

EDIT: In response to the reviews saying this game has a ton of connections issues: Where the hell do you live? I'm on the east coast of the US and I'm barely having any issues.

Pros:
-Awesome combat system
-Top notch graphics and animations
-Nice progression system
-Fun community

Con:
-Microtransaction prices are high, but non of it is necessary to buy into anyaway so no big deal

NOTE: Some people are complaining about server issues. I was kicked from a total of two games during open beta (4 days) and once since playing live (5 hours). I'm not too concerned.

Battleborn may the game I underestimated more than any other. I'm a long time shooter and MOBA fan. I really enjoyed Monday Night Combat, and this is even better. It has PvE story missiosn too!

During the open beta weekend I was pretty luke warm about the game. After I went to play other games, I kept thinking about all Battleborn and all the questions I had about it. I eventually went to reddit and other forums to discuss my impressions and ask questions, and after learning how items and other things worked, I decided to purchase the game and give it another shot.

Since then, I have not had more fun in a game in a long time.

A couple more notes:

Items: There is some balancing on a per-item basis that can be (and is being) done, but it is not dependant on "rarity". Commons can be very good because they can give you the early advantage, wherease players using legendary gear wont have their stat bonuses until several minutes into the match.

Characters: If you don't like typical shooters, don't worry. Many characters, especially melee characters, don't feel very "shooter-y"

Co-op play is great. The game is brutal and unforgiving and I wouldn't have it any other way.
