Don't let the haters fool you, this is an AMAZING game. It delivers exactly what it said it would: An authentic Star Wars starfighter cockpit experience.

I'm about halfway through the campaign and while the story and all of your squad mates are lackluster at best, with every one of them being a tired old trope that for some mind boggling reason, just recap the mission you just played. But thankfully you can either ignore them entirely, or skip through bits of dialogue you don't want to hear.

But the gameplay. Holy christ the gameplay! I'm a huge star wars fan and I've been waiting for this exact game for almost 30 years. They nailed it. Is it absolutely perfect? Nothing is, but it's damn close.

I purchased HOTAS and turned my chair into a cockpit, still waiting for my VR to arrive, but even in 2D it's an absolutely amazing feeling to fly around.

There's quite a bit to manage and keep your mind on during fights, this is not a simple point and click shooter. In multiplayer, I'm sure the best pilots will be the ones who can manage their systems the best, not about twitch aiming or OP weapons, simply skill.

Even if you don't enjoy multiplayer, you can still do it all solo with AI or join some friends and fight the AI, so you're not really missing out on anything.

It's impossible to describe the feeling you get when you dump power into your weapons systems, blast a bunch of X-Wings to space rubble, then convert your weapons power to engines and boost away.

It just feels good.
