By Kenobi's beard, this was an EPIC experience. Especially seen from a fan of the Half-Life universe point of view. 15 years of waiting - and now, it seems like yesterday. Forget Half-Life 3 - this is what you want.
This is the future of gaming people. I've played other AAA VR titles that blew me away. Lone Echo, Vader Immortal, Asgard, Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - but this game, is in a league of it's own.
If you don't have a VR headset - get one. This is the way we go from now on. Playing this game, has erased all doubts from my mind.

It's a true Call of Cthulhu experience. It's like starring in a CoC RPG scenario. It even follows a lot of the rules from CoC, skills, character progression and sanity. If you're versed in the RPG, you'll feel right at home.
It's pretty slow paced, mostly. Walking around investigating, looking for clues and talking to characters. Trying to piece together the truth and solve your case. There's some action in it of course, but holding true to it's pedigree, it's primarily about uncovering the mystery that's hidden on Darkwater Island.
A lot of the choices you make, even while just investigating, can influence the story greatly. I've only completed it once, but I sensed that there are numerous paths towards different endings.

The graphics are a little rough though and not as pretty as we're used to these days. Especially evident in cutscenes. But the sounds, atmosphere and voice acting are all great. It's about 10 hours of play. So it's a little short actually. But I had a lot of fun playing it - and even had to roll a few sanity checks myself a few times :D

If you're familiar with the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. This should definitely have your interest.

*Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice*

_A third person horror adventure, set in real Nordic Mythology..!!_

Wow...!! This game is simply put, *amazing* I'm in awe..!!

This was my absolute wildest highlight of 2017.

Sometimes you run into one of those games, that will leave such an impact on you, they'll stay with you for many, many years. They can even redefine your very perception of what makes a game a memorable experience.
Senua's Sacrifice is one such game. At least - it is for me.

It's a truely unique story, fleshed out within a game that really works.
It makes you wonder, and ponder on how fragile but also resiliant, the human mind can be. Something no other game has done this well, ever.

It's a story about Senua, a medieval Pikt whom sets out on a quest to Hell itself, in order to save her lovers soul from the clutches of Hel. The Nordic Mythology's ruler of Hell. (Or Hella, as she is named in the game)

Senua's real battle though, is within her own mind. She hears voices whispering to her - she sees people and events long gone and can't always trust her own perceptions of the world. She feels haunted by what she calls "The Darkness". An entity she feels is trying to consume and destroy her from within.

YOU hear and see it all too. See, you're one of those voices.. ;) She even knows you are there. But she tries to ignore you. As an example of this, whenever you turn the camera around so she'll look at you, she always turns her head away. ;)

Constantly there are voices all around you, commenting on this and that. Screaming, begging and enticing. Sometimes all at once. It gives you a freigtening idea of what it must be like to be having a psychosis.

In fact the game was developed closely with real mental disorder experts and with people recovering from psychoses - to give you - as real an experience as possible in a game.

The graphics are made using the Unreal Engine 4.0. With beautiful landscapes, dark and gritty locales and some of the best character animation I've ever seen.

Senua moves fluently and realisticly. Especially in sword fighting combat. If you ask her to dodge an incoming blow, she'll do it immediately, even in the middle of a swing. You don't have to wait for a set animation sequence to complete.
It makes handling Senua a real pleasure. I truely loved the combat parts. Feeling the character responding amicably and fluidly. A bit like Talon in Shadow of Mordor. Senua was made using real motion caption by an excellent actress. And it really shows in the cutscenes. So much emotion was put into it..!!

And the voice acting. Oh man, it's among the best I've ever experienced.
For example: The voices in your "head" were recorded using special equipment, designed to give your brain the perfect perception of distance, movement and direction. These voices simply fly all around your head whispering and yelling.. All voice acting in this game is done to perfection. Senua, the visions, The Darkness - everything. That said, this game MUST be played using a headset.

The gameplay can be described as a somewhat normal 3rd person adventure game. You run around in various locales where you must complete puzzles, find hidden story markers and find your way through levels. Most levels have some sort of puzzle or illusion you'll have to figure out, before advancing.

There is also combat of course. Sword fighting with various Norse "ghosts" or undead. In the start it's pretty straightforward. But later on, more challenging opponents joins the fray, requiring you to develop new tactics, keeping track of the battlefield so you won't be out maneuvered and the mastering of Senua's abilities. It's not overly complicated. You have 2 different types of attack. A quick attack, and a slower more powerful one. These can be comboed and will reward you with a critical strike if done properly. You can also evade or parry. But that's it. I completed the game without ever using the parry skill.. Still, I found the combat sequences extremely satisfying. Simple but challenging. Especially when you have 6+ opponents circling around you. Oh yeah, there's a melee attack as well. It comes in pretty handy at times.. ;)

The boss fights, and there are a few, can be pretty hard though.

And you don't want to screw up too much. Senua is infected by "The Rot". And every time you fail, it will grow upwards on her arm. And when it reaches her head - it's game over. Permanently..!!
I completed the game in my first try though, so it's still possible.

Conclusion. If you love a good adventure game, and to immerse yourself in a truely epic, but also extremely dark story - this game is a *must* for you.
Especially if you're interested in the Nordic Mythology. There's a lot of lore and storytelling about it in this game. Most of it, pretty accurate too.

I'll give it s 9.5 out of 10 score. The only thing keeping it from a 10, is that it's rather short. I completed it in 9 hours. And I really wanted a bit more.
In all fairness. Extending the story further, might also have been a bad thing.
It was nicely balanced as it were. But I still would've wanted a little more out of it.

Simply put, this game is overly brilliant..!!

It's by far the very best Alien based game I've ever played. (and I liked all of them)

The atmosphere, the mystery and the feeling of being screwed pretty much all the time, combines to give this game a distinct vibe that can only be described as how Ripley must've felt in the last part of Alien.

You need to (silently) explore, find blueprints, gather ingredients and combine them into useful gadgets to survive. And I kid you not - this is about survival, nothing else. You are being hunted, actively - and the Alien is not the only worry you'll face. You have the feeling of almost constantly being 2 heartbeats away from certain death. (most times, you actually are)

The game is open world. Meaning, that while you might not be able to open this door or that hatchet now, you might be able to later. You'll find better equipment along the way. Perhaps find a door code in a computer log somewhere else. So you can travel back and forth between sections where you've been, as much as you'd like (or dare to).

The way the story unwinds, the challenges you'll face and the twists and turns of the plot, makes Alien: Isolation a fun and exhilarating experience. It's almost never just straightforward. Just as you think you've figured it all out - something unexpected occurs and you're back, running for your life, having to adapt on the fly.

You're dealing with an AI that learns, so the distraction that works now, might not do so next time, and sometimes you run into trouble where you haven't before. You never know what might be lurking around the corner, so need to rely on your wits, your luck and your senses. (especially your hearing)

It's not a shooter like most other Alien games. It's a survival game. You'll have weapons, but weapons are noisy and won't do much good if you happen to attract the Alien using them.

Even during my 4th playthrough, this game still scares me beyond reason. That's how good it is..!!

Very awesome game. Well made, atmospheric and full of neat details. Not as scary and horrifying as the first Amnesia game by far, but it definatly has a much more disturbing and compelling storyline. You can't interact as much with your environment as you can in the original game, moving boxes, books etc. But things you can interact with behaves in the same way as in the original: "The Dark Descent". There is no inventory, sanity loss and no healthbar - only notes and memos.

It's definatly recommended, if you like a disturbing and dark atmosphere, finely detailed background sounds, squeaks and noises - and also unraveling a story that compels you to investigate and explore.

Quite brilliant game. Tomb Raider like locations and puzzles, Indiana Jones like atmosphere and 1st. person shooter element not unlike that of Wolfenstein. One of the more interesting titles I've played in a while.
Definatly recommended if you like ancient mysteries, corny humour and good action. It's not the most challenging game around, but it has a really nice storyline and breathtaking scenery.

This game is freakin' brilliant. And I mean: 'BRILLIANT' in every sense of the word.

I loved every second of the single player part. Lot's of humour, an interesting story and some of the puzzles are of sheer genious design. I really wanted to get help at times, but I didn't. They can be hard but not unsolvable if you put your mind to it.

The co-op part of the game is even better. Also with great humour and really perplexing puzzles that makes you glad you have a friend along for the ride.

I'd definatly recommend this game.

This is the best space simulator I've EVER tried. It even breaks X-Wing Alliance off.
It's flying in space with the same kind of physical realism you know from sims like MS Flight Sim and other heavily realism-oriented games.
You can do whatever you want. Start a war with a entire system. Make yourself rích by mining. Find luxurious trade-routes. Live by your guns - yes, you name it.
You can soar over the surface of any planet you encounter, and even land in cities on them. You have an entire quadrant of space ahead of you, some systems are hostile, some aren't. Some have riches, others have rebels hiding behind every asteroid you try to mine. Your options are what you make them to be in this game.

It's a truely amazing space sim.

Just remember to make your graphics card apply anti aliasing and ansitropic filtering to the game's .exe file - or it looks like som kind of 90's game. But it IS quite beautiful if these measures are met. And a good solid joystick wouldn't hurt either...
