Imagine a world where everything edges between the familiar and utterly alien

Imagine a world where good can only be found in the nooks and crannies of secret places and the cruel reign and suppress the weak, admired (Or feared depending on one's point of view) and remembered for all time with great edifices that illicit a god like status

Imagine a world that cares little should you live and die by either your ignorance, your lack of skill with your weapon, or your need to be a hero.

The days are harsh, the people uncaring, and your belly will ache. You may end up a slave yourself, or fortunate enough to live under the heel of another. You will loose your friends. Sacrifice others for your own chance to escape bondage. You may in the end not tolerate your reflection. You are not the messiah. You are not the hero of this tale

But for some, they defy the world. Defy their bindings. They learn from their experience. Through hardship and suffering, they will forge themselves to potentially be a great warrior. To lead armies into the heart of those whom stamp on the heel of others necks. To set forth a great new undertaking and rebuild civilization under the guidance of your benevolent hand.

Or simply forego any sense of morality, and become a tyrant and despot yourself, forever carving a path of destruction and woe much like those made you live that way.

To a dungeons and dragon player of over 20 years, one would assume I'm talking about Dark Sun.

But no, I am in fact talking about Kenshi.

The game is truly by design, a wonder of the imagination. A symphony of design and ideas.

Is it a flawed? Yes.

But I ask you to look past that. See that the world enforces narrative through a truly open experience through your own experiences. Your own hardships. The game creates a deep sense of agency with such simplicity. Combine what I just mentioned with wonderful and talented modders whom add critical things to the world (Expanded Squad Sizes, recruiting slaves, and other good/bad things) you have a game unlike any other on the market.

I have said to a close friend if I was only allowed one game to play for the rest of my life, I'd make it Kenshi for certain.
