Game is great fun and usual EA promises and progress are OK but not coming back to it until can actually multiplayer with friends properly. Not being able to do custom multiplayer in the demo makes the easiest form of 'evangelism' impossible which is a big shame.

My 5yr old's words: "I like the people, maps, and the way it's designed".

Simple enough for him to pick up, enough depth to keep me coming back for hours and hours.

Not yet a modern classic but has the potential to be exactly that. "Laser Beam" as we call it is intense and challenging and well built. Gameplay is superb. There are a few rough-edges in the presentation but the product is solid otherwise. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

If nothing else, this is an awesome couch game for when lads/ladies are over but may well turn out to be far more :)

So disappointed, was really looking forward to this.
This game was not ready for release and does not live up to its heritage.
Have requested a refund.

As other reviewers have said, and in no particular order:

- shoddy animations
- shoddy physics
- selecting units can sometimes be difficult and behaves inconsistently
- inconsistent texturing (though some of it is beautiful)
- a carrier that doesn't carry anything
- resource harvesters that don't actually visibly return resources, just pull up 100m away from the carrier, pause and then continue.
- pathing management with large vehicles and somewhat enclosed spaces is clumsy
- backstory isn't particularly well presented, more implicit than anything else
- semi-adoption of Homeworld keyboard shortcuts, but pressing 'f' to focus doesn't really work, double tapping it does nothing
- no alt-select for focus
- camera controls don't seem intuitive
- camera can not be zoomed out far enough, forced into the sensor view 90% of the time, even though the maps aren't that large
- only a handful of skirmish maps
- AI is lacking in the campaign

The biggest problem though is one of the games core mechanics, the effect that elevation has on combat:

- an overlay is displayed with elevation hints when you are issuing move or attack-move commands but this info is unavailable if you're simply right clicking to issue move commands. A keyboard key to toggle the overlay would have been more useful.
- positioning units, particularly large groups of units, to take advantage of elevation is virtually impossible as there are:
- no formations for units
- no way of specifying the orientation of units or groups of units
- despite LOS being such an important mechanic, you will often find half your units have none, and there's little you can do about it.

I love the concept and art design. The UI is fine. Music is spot on and the Story is OK, just under presented.

I think most punters were surprised when this was announced. Almost seems like the release date was a little bit of a surprise for the developers - seems as if they were rushed into getting this out the door well before it was ready, otherwise I would be DEEPLY surprised if all these game dev vets who were supposedly working on the title would have been content shipping it.

If development continues post release and some of the above gets fixed, I would gladly change my review. Would love to this title shine.

10/10 - and I expect it will only get better.

These guys are going to make a superb game. Viscerally immersive, I have to take frequent breaks, scared my heart will beat itself to death. Am desperate to get the lads over to see which one of us freaks first.

In terms of immersion, would love to see TrackIR support for independent head movement (á la Arma series) and am looking forward to the "RTVP" voice comms that, on paper, is going to be an industry leading, gold-star feature.

Please buy this and get excited about what it will become.

It is (almost) the ultimate game. The only truly effective and fun FPS/RTS hybrid available. If you're looking for a game that necessitates teamwork and coordination, this is it.
