June 06, 2025 Update:
The developers have addressed several points of feedback in their very first update, which is very refreshing to see! I will happily continue to review patches and update my review as improvements are made. I will say that when the next update drops to improve travelling between regions, I will likely change my review to "Recommended". The new changes that address my feedback are reflected below via my striking through complaints that have been fixed.

Do you love Viva La Dirt League?
I highly recommend this game! It's cute, funny, and has all your favorite references!

Do you have no idea what the other reviews are saying because you don't understand the references?
I unfortunately wouldn't recommend the game to you right now. (Please wishlist and check back later!)

Why "Not Recommended"?
I love the creators, and I enjoy the witty humor, but there are some gameplay headaches that I don't think serve as a good introduction to the... Cinematic universe(?) of Viva La Dirt League.

The early gameplay is a bit dull and slow, and although the humor is there, the gameplay experience itself doesn't match up just yet. They have made a few changes to smooth out some annoyances of the early game, and I anticipate this may continue! I'm optimistic.

Complaints and Suggestions
1. Sprinting could be faster. With how often you run from one end of the map back to the other, perhaps the sprint speed could kick up after a few seconds of sprinting (or sailing) to facilitate faster travel. On top of this, sprinting can be a mild annoyance when you stop to pick something from the ground, because doing so stops your sprint, and you are forced to press the sprint button *again* after. The player should be sprinting whenever they're holding the sprint button, in my opinion. This "stopping to pick things up" sprinting issue has been fixed! It looks like this was a bug rather than an intended gameplay feature. I'm happy to see the devs are quickly responding to critiques and improving their game. As far as sprint speed goes, they claim they are planning to add portals between regions. When that is released, this item will be completely removed from my (likely rewritten) review.

2. The currents are really difficult to make use of right now, and unlocking them makes navigating the deep waters more difficult than before. I'm thinking a possible fix could be something like making the currents "thicker" or "stronger", but perhaps less strong while you're moving your line through them manually. That would make them easier to use to your advantage, while ensuring they don't start having more impact when the user doesn't want it.

Additionally, I really think the camera should be positioned lower on the hook than it currently is when manually descending. I get that speed can cost you, and you may hook a fish you didn't see nor want, but with the introduction of currents, sometimes you have to be speedy, and getting deep underwater only to hook that one fish (you know the one) in Honeywood lake accidentally is frustrating. I also think the "cancel fishing" button could be introduced much sooner as it saves time not needing to reel back up.

3. Fish combat. I do like the current blend of simplicity and complexity, but I'd say the combat can be a little frustrating sometimes for two reasons: the fish don't telegraph when they're going to flip to attack mode, and they don't telegraph when they're about to actually attack.

If the fish were to somehow visually and audibly signal that they're flipping, that would remove the need for the grace period where you can reel shortly after they start attacking, and would help prepare the player to press their block button instead of spamming attack, which would be especially helpful for some fish that attack quite quickly after switching modes.

As for blocking, if you don't have the NPC rod or the ring that lets you see when to block, you just have to get a feel for it. Which isn't the worst thing in the world, but it would make the gameplay much smoother and satisfying if the fish wound back before attacking or something, so you're not forced to use an item with that buff.

Conclusion
I made it to the point where I need to get "rose scented things" and wasn't able to find them anywhere despite following the circled area on the map, and was starting to get bored / mildly irritated at the game, so I put it down. I think I'm just dumb and didn't read the dialog. I found them relatively quickly when I picked the game back up. I'd love to pick it back up soon, as I do want to see what's left in the game, but I wanted to leave this review because a player who isn't aware of the content creators behind the game may be less interested in continuing after their first experience than I am.

Maybe I'm being too picky, but I'm happy to change my review as QoL updates are released!

Also I bought the legendary DLC, but I don't get all my OP goodies instantly on spawn to destroy the game easily and flex on the Poors, so 0/10.

In my opinion, this COD has the best zombies experience, but some technical issues hold it back. Namely, it requires (in my opinion) a community developed tool to function without bugs and network connection issues. I wont name it here in case it is against community guidelines, but if you "Serious"ly look on the bo3 subreddit I am sure you will find it.

Loving it, but for the love of God allow selling the luchador any time in the ante to disable the boss blind. I had a negative luchador and sold it right before the boss blind because I assumed it would need to be activated beforehand and my 75% effective diamonds deck had to die to the window.

If you think its worth 15-25 hours, go for it. It's fun destroying things. Your computer might die if its old.

Despite its arrival at the tail-end of the decade, this is hands down the most revolutionary game of the 2010s. Thanks funny frog man.

I dropped my keyboard and the only keys left are WASD, so this game is perfect for me. Don't ask how I typed this.
