This game is so good and refreshing in a genre that has so much filler. Art, writing, music, and mechanics are all beautiful, tight, and well thought out. Highly recommended to anyone regardless of previous experience with the genre.

Glad I will be able to continue to play this goofy game.

I was going to wait until I unlocked everything and cleared the highest difficulty but I don't think I can't keep going. I've got over 1k hours in Slay the Spire and hundreds of hours in other deckbuilding roguelikes. So, let me cut to the chase:

The cards are not well-done. I spend most of my runs turning down almost every card offered because trying to find any synergy is nigh-impossible. So many cards are either useless or require such a huge set-up that you'll never be able to get a payoff. Some of the cards have such a niche use-case that it's baffling that they even exist. I can't emphasise how wild it is to have a deckbuilder where I don't want to add cards to my deck.

If the card aspect of the game felt better, it would be easier to excuse the other faults of the game (relatively meaningless map node choices with most events being useless, re-used UI elements making game readability difficult, the RNG of unknowable distortions making planning for battles impossible, rest sites being useless if you are un-damaged [not difficult to accomplish, especially with a healer], relics varying wildly between boring and useless, etc etc) but in 2023 we have so many great deckbuilders to play instead.

After having just completed this game on impossible, I really just cannot recommend it. I'm a huge fan of the King's Bounty series but I feel like 1C is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ us around at this point. They're releasing a bug-riddled, rehashed, mostly re-appropriated-content game. I don't mind paying for a new 'campaign' essentially since the engine is the same for the most part and they carry over most of the same units, but this is really just a case of relabeling a bunch of units and calling it a day.

If you're an absolute completist, the game isn't unplayable. You should prepare to spend most of your time running around trying to figure out where you're supposed to be going, though, since the quest log is almost useless and you have to guess most of the time where the quests or story wants you to go. Most of the land is pretty lazily designed and doesn't flow that well. There are re-used maps aplenty.

Ultimately, I just don't know if I can keep playing these half-baked games. They have such a solid engine to begin with, they could probably just let some users come up with new stuff for them and release that, but I guess they just really have no intention of caring about these releases. Such a sad fate for such a promising initial entry.

Don't even bother buying the original (except for the songs to import if it goes on sale), this game is all you need. It's faster, slicker and full of tons more rock.

Don't buy this game. Buy Armored Princess or Crossworlds. This game is a bunch of repurposed maps and fights and full of bugs and typos and half-implemented things. It is not fun to play and you will hate yourself.
