I used to play this game a ton as a kid on the Xbox 360. I bought it a few years ago on Steam just to get a little bit of a nostalgia kick. Honestly, I never really had issues with GWFL till about 2019, or 2020. I stopped playing the game then and just gave up on the devs fixing it, especially when they have made it unable to be purchased, probably for good.

I gave this a reinstall at the time of writing this review, and to my surprise, and with a little work, the game still surprisingly works, with GWFL also fully functioning (it seems that way at least, there aren't really any players to test if the online works still)

If you still own this game, let's get it popping again, and show Capcom that we do care about this game and franchise, and we want to keep playing it. I know I do.

This is exactly how they should remaster these Zombies maps going forward.

After the events of May 22nd, 2023, the original MW2 is deemed "not playable" by a majority of the community due to its rampant cheating and RCE problem that has yet to be addressed by IW/Activision. The only way to play this game safely was through Xlabs, a free client for MW2 that had patched RCE's, community made content, and dedicated servers. Unfortunately, Activision C&D'd the project, deeming MW2 basically unplayable.

Do not support this company. It just wants your money to sell you an unfinished/unsafe game. I will not be supporting this company, since it doesn't seem to care about it's community anymore. Only cares about profit margins.

EDIT: The online services for the game were taken down on July 27th, 2023, in order to combat a worm infecting players who simply connected to players who were already infected. Their fix? A band-aid fix and an extra executable in your game directory (that is not really noted anywhere) that all it does is check if a dll is present and deletes it if it is. Fantastic job, Activision.

Still a ♥♥♥♥ company.

Early Access Review
The game overall is fun, but when you have a download method that is rather primitive, and servers that barely work, its hard to give this a good review.

(I understand that this is a beta, but I haven't been able to play the game for 2 days now due to the initialization issue most players are facing)

Alright, so I played this game on both Console and PC. Personally a PC player myself, but going to Console to play was a bit better in terms of playerbase and matches. So, to start, the campaign wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't good either. You could REALLY tell that it was not crafted to be a good experience, and was not made to be a "play it over again to relive" type of campaign, like other CoD's have been in the past. Moving to multiplayer, since Campaign just makes me cringe talking about it, was really solid at launch. Most of the weapons were decently balanced, maps were pretty good and fit the advanced movement of the game, but I personally don't like the specialist system too much. Maps were crafted to fit both the advanced movement AND Botg gameplay, which is fantastic. After the DLC weapons released, balance started to decline due to DLC weapons being absolutely overpowered compared to the Stock weapons, and I guess this was a move on both Treyarch's and Activision's part. It has gotten better balance-wise, but it's still pretty bad. Supply drop system was and still is a cash grab system. Yeah, spend some of your in game currency to roll loot boxes, and HOPE to get something really good, or just spend money on them because getting Cryptokeys is a bit slow. Constantly rolling duplicates plagues this system, at least WW2 got it right in that department. Sort of. I did really like how they would add a new gamemode for people to try out, and it would eventually stick, thank you devs. Now, onto the Zombies. Most of this will be personal opinions and gripes, which are not representative of what others think of it. I also want to point out that I have only played SOE, DE, and all of the Zombies Chronicles maps. I also want to point out, that I don't use Gums due to the fact that I'm more adapt to the original experience, if you catch my drift. SOE, I felt like it was really "veteran zombie player" heavy, with emphasis on completing the EE and going for high rounds, and the layout was very weird to get used to. The characters didn't really have any, well, character to them. They felt bland. Dumb boss rounds and very annoying dog-type rounds with the flying bugs was a turn off for me personally. Since I haven't really played much of DE, I want to personally say that the layout is okay, and I liked the return of the "original" crew. Zombie Chronicles, is the most I have ever played zombies. Reliving these maps in a better engine is just fantastic. A few gripes though. I really did wish they added some of the classic weapons onto those maps, since the BO3 ones after playing through all of the DLC was just "Yay, another weapon that I have already used for the number'th time". Playing Nacht again on a better looking engine was just a dream come true. I will say, Gums makes this map wayyyy easier than it truly is. The double PaP system is very handy, but I feel like some of them are just gimmicks to make it seem like they are doping something, and some make the game downright easy, Turned and Dead Wire for example. Now, the meat and potatoes, the mod support. THANK YOU TREYARCH FOR FINALLY BRINGING THIS BACK! This has been an absolute godsend, and is probably the only reason I got this game on PC in the first place! Custom maps, custom player models, you name it, they probably have it. With all of the mods that are on the workshop, you will NEVER get bored, especially Zombies players. But yeah, that's my review, I have the comments open if you guys want to drop your own opinions on my review, or if you have something that I missed. Thank you Treyarch!
