Simplistic, yet incredibly addictive gameplay. Castlevania inspired visuals are also a plus

A really solid metroidvania with solid mechanics and gameplay and excellent music. The artstyle and graphics are also really nicely done. Unfortunately, the story is kind of iffy in places, but not bad. If you enjoyed Castlevania metroidvanias, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Only real downside is that Normal is a little too easy, and you have to beat Normal to unlock Hard mode. There is a "cheat" you can use to start in hardmode though, if you really want.

Gonna try and be a bit more reserved than everyone else here and say this: I was one of the people who kickstarted this, and it is nothing like what was promised back then. But let's go through with what the game actually is.

- TL;DR
Don't let the images and video fool you, this is not a good game.

- Gameplay
Game uses a two button system, one for moving and one for attacking. What the game fails to explain to you though is that both buttons are for movement, and that weapons have a limited effective range which your character will move into before attacking. This is similar to an attack move from strategy games, but fails to give you an option to target something specific (like an explosive barrel) which means that whenever you make an attack move, you just have to hope an pray that your character eventually does what you actually want. There are places within the game where you can buy upgrades, but these are almost unnoticable when you actually get to them. This is also how you upgrade to Hardcore Mode, which, given the other issues with the gameplay, I pray to god that you never use. I haven't played much yet, so I don't know if it's possible to unlock stuff like other characters or weapons down the line, and due to the gameplay being pretty poor, I doubt I will ever find out.

- Music
Not much to speak of, seems there's about 3-4 tracks in the game and most of them are just the same kind of droning electrical sounds that seem to be ambience more than actual music.

- Story
There's a story?

- Graphics
The one decent thing in this game is the pixelart, though it's not really something amazing either. The whole "False2D" engine thing gets pretty obnoxious as I don't really see anything it does different, other than maybe adding some blur to the graphics. It's neat that the devs wanted to focus on making their own engine for the project, but you also have to ask yourself if it was actually worth waiting 5 years for. I do recall the kickstarter updates, the few that existed, mentioned stuff about the lighting in the game, but honestly not sure it was worth the effort.

- Conclusion
If you have 10 bucks to spare, and don't really care about actually playing the game then sure, buy it. But I really wouldn't recommend throwing more money at this guy if he can't deliver on his promises. This project had a lot of promise back when the kickstarter was live, but has since been completely changed in favor of something that's barely playable, much less enjoyable. I hope this project serves as a lesson to the dev that they should focus on making the gameplay fun and enjoyable, rather than focusing all their time and effort on engine work that doesn't really change all that much.

Not the most amazing game I've ever played, but definitely the one that made me cry manly tears the most.

Early Access Review
This is to Minecraft what Technic was to Lego.

Only in space.

With asteroids. And guns.
