This game suffers from the "let's scrap everything we got right in the first game and make it worst in the sequel" syndrome.

Game as it is, has some improvements over the first game but also neglects what the dying light essence was in the first game, which was ZOMBIE PARKOUR OPEN WORLD GAME. This game has more focus on humans than zombies and that annoys the F out of me. This was one of the major concerns i had with the game initially before launch, when they were constantly stating we would have lots of interactions in the last city, implying the focus would be survivors, not zombies. On top of the factor that "zombies hide during daytime and roam at night".

The things they have done wrong with this game that i have found so far:
-scrapping the essence of Dying Light 1, this game manages to feel worst than the first game to me;

-whenever you clear locations with lots of zombies to loot vehicles, they made it so that whenever you loot 1 of 3 vehicles for one of them to explode and attract zombies towards your location, why is this a thing? I literally have to kill like 15-20 zombies to loot and i loot 1 vehicle out of 3 and get swarmed by another 5-10 zombies. Idiotic devs at their finest...

-infection system is annoying. Another bad thing added to the game for little to no reason. Could have instead made it so that your infection level would increase if you were exposed to infected areas or infected damage in general and using UV lights to reduce infection level or generally have it decrease overtime when under the sunlight. System as it is, forces you to rush while indoors, if you play stealthly, make sure to have supplies to counter infection;

-they removed guns from the game because they wanted to focus on a closer combat style, while the combat style has improved, it gets a bit too repetitive and limited very quickly;

-pointless nerfs that make no sense like korek charm, basically they made it POINTLESS to use this charm anymore, 666 scraps to use it now? Even the number seems to be directly implying something on their end. If they had to nerf it, at least be considerate to how much of one thing is needed to use once per item. 666 is absurd and pretty much shows how little they care about the fanbase;

-Volatiles are broken early game, they can 1 hit kill you or leave you with low HP after 1 hit, you are literally powerless to fight these early ingame and they are present indoors quite often;

-speaking of indoors, if you go indoors to loot a place and it goes from night to daytime halfway in, you best GTFO of that place because zombie spawns do not give a damn if you already cleaned the previous room or not. I literally have walked into the hospital location early ingame and like 3/4 in daytime popped up, i got 3 volatile spawns in the room i was in, that had like 5 infected, along with the 3 volatile spawns, i got like 10-15 infected spawning around me all of a sudden. I tried to make my way back and guess what, more infected had spawned in the previous rooms that i had just cleared, wtf? Daytime spawns indoors are unbalanced and broken. Why the hell are there 10-15 infected spawning in a room i just cleared less than 5 minutes ago?

-also more indoors problems, some locations can screw you over since they spawn the runner type infected to come after you, sometimes you have 10+ of these after you and you get cornered with no way to leave the "safe corner", i've literally been stuck in a corner once during a side mission, basically a small room with 2 ways in, both ways were door paths with wooden planks forcing the player to crouch to get in, i was surrounded by 4-6 runners on each side, had to use 30+ crafted medicine to survive and get out. Everytime i tried to crouch out of the room, one of the runners would pounce me and pushed me back in while leaving me with low health again, had to try and kill 2 of them, then a 3rd one climbed and went somewhere else, i managed to get out and killed the 2 other runners sitting at the door and started running like hell, this reminds me of the never ending pounce attacks from volatiles in DL1, where i could get pounced 2-3 times in a row and not move and die, this is absurd;

The only improvements i have seen thus far:
-plot, first game had really bad plot elements and was too cringe, this one is better but not that great either. Would have been much better if the focus was the infected most of the time, not survivors taking the piss out of you with annoying requests;

-movement, despite being too unrealistic, it flows better than the first game, the animations aren't on par with the first game though;

-close combat;

As it is, i would rate this game a 7/10. First one for me was a 8.5/10 for the most part. Considering the steam % of all ratings, i will leave this as a negative review, because i do not agree with it being 80% or higher in ratings. This also shows how bad steam reviews can be in the end, they should include a score when reviewing, then showing positive % and average of all positive ratings vs same stuff for negative ones.

I might update this as i play the game more and more, if you want to play dying light, play the first game with all the story dlcs included, much better IMHO. This game... literally made a dark atmosphere in the first game and then changed into a colorful one with the second game, it almost feels like it received a disney treatment that made it less appealing than the first game to me.

UPDATE: I beat the game last week and uninstalled it. I had to take a few breaks to finish the game, it was that bad. Dying light 1 got me hooked up from start to finish 3 times. Solo pc, co-op pc, co-op ps4 + partial solo ps4 on hardest difficulty. Dying light 2 however, feels so bad... Anyone that is a fan of the first game, i dare say, has a 50/50 chance of liking this game. It's not all bad, but it isn't definitely better than the first game. If you are a new player to the series, my advice is to play the first game, game is complete and done, buy it during a cheap sale and have fun with it. This second game, i only recommend buying it during a low value sale, that includes all bigger dlcs at a later point. As it is, the game isn't worth more than 30 bucks, it's completely rushed, therefore it's too repetitive. Even the plot gets rushed and feels incomplete. All the quest choices you make are pointless except for like 4. You literally get option A, B and sometimes C in almost every quest and sidequest you do, it gets annoying at some point, and these options usually only impact on quest rewards a little, except for 4-5 options during the main questline, that will allow you to take 1 of multiple paths, that in the end will judge you and the ending you get is based on those options.

That one game you keep coming back to for nearly 2 decades.

It's a unique experience but i honestly hope they make runescape 4 and fix the combat issues in this game, the old system did not age well as combat becomes more complex and unfair.

The good:
-Good gameplay
-Good visuals

and the bad:
-Battlepass sucks in terms of rewards and is easily the grindiest BP i ever seen in a game (they made it permanent with the option to skip tiers, so they made it TOO GRINDY in hopes people would pay to skip the grind, they literally did something good just to bait people into spending more money, this is a scam, there is no reason to make BP take months to complete);

-Customization is lacking if you play the game for free right now, everyone looks the same for the most part, simple stuff that could be done in previous games is now behind excessive paywalls and/or excessive grind (again, a scam. If you are creating paywalls for customization at LEAST have the DECENCY to make NEW cosmetics and not re-use old cosmetics in the game and simply put them behind paywalls, NOT COOL);

-Game has a cult of "special people", willing to defend the game to absurd lengths, saying stuff like "game is free, customization is optional", these "people" outright neglect the factor that Halo and customization were always a combined factor since Halo 3, simply stating "game is free, so cry more" is not a good way of dealing with this problem, previous games sold PVE and PVP in the same package, who in their right mind would want to see a free to play version of the game, that punishes everyone into spending more money than in the previous games to get the same customization options available in those games. In the past you had 60-70€ price tag for a complete game, with no additional costs for customization (new MP maps was the only thing they sold separate or loot boxes in H5) vs nowadays current Halo experience that has a PVE semi open world experience that costs 60-70€, with the PVP component being offered for "free", at the cost of customization being non existant unless you pay for it, while also making BP rewards too damn slow to earn, this is all bad. If this was an entirelly new game doing this, i would not give a F about this, but this is halo, is a long lasting franchise, and to see something like this and simply just welcome it with open arms is a stupid of making sure future games to be equal to this or even worst;

-Game is lacking playlist modes and uses a mix of playlist matchmaking which IMO is bad (some people just want a simple slayer match or big team slayer, not a CTF or capture the hill type of match that is randomly mixed with these core PVP modes);

That's about it.

PROs:
-good movement and gun play;
-insane jiggle physics (yes, but you can observe this in the main menu under the skins option, ingame you don't have enough POV to watch any of that stuff);
-english voice acting and subtitles (makes it less cringe than the first game when listening to characters talk);
-decent graphical quality in the game.

CONs:
-too short, beat the game in 2.3 hours;
-you will be left more confused after beating the game vs before starting the game (plot is that confusing seriously);
-some bugs in the game (got myself stuck twice in poorly "blocked" areas to prevent you to go there but i still managed to when crouching and dashing while in combat, one of the times i reverted to last CP, game crashed to desktop with no info. Also came across alot of ammo bugs, like picking up ammo and amount of ammo i have being bugged, happened mostly with special type of ammo)
-this game tries very hard to "have a little bit of everything", there is a stealth portion of the game that makes no sense and it sucks honestly. There is also a part where you drive a car with a machine gun on top, which also sucks. There are plenty of QTE moments in this game, i think people hate those in FPS games, QTE once in a while is good enough but this game somewhat uses it a bit too much along the 2 hours of gameplay;
-most of the voice communication objectives the game gives you, makes no sense. Basically the narrative of this game is like 80% of the time you listening to someone giving you indications of where to go and what to do, when the game is pretty straight forward with that, basically useless chatter over the radio to make it more alive but ends up being cringe.

In the end, this game served well as a break from other games, i would probably score it 4 out of 5 given everything i stated here. Considering where it came from and the background for Bright Memory, i was more "mind blown" with the first project honestly, but this one isn't that much different.

Game is fine. There might be some performance issues here and there just like any other game.

Just needs some ports to consoles and cross-play to increase popularity numbers.

Additionally, i really hope a PVE with story content will one day be created for this game. Because i do feel like it has strong potential for that.

Early Access-recension
Great game, feels unique, not going to lie about it. The idea is pretty good.

Though the game suffers ALOT from matchmaking times, at least in the EU region (which seems to be the least active one). There is ranked and normal playmodes (there are vs AI modes but i'm not doing those).

I've done 2 matches in this game against other players with normal solo queue, attempted a 3rd match and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... The queue time was BAD BAD BAD.

Took me around 1 minute to get into my first match, about 15 minutes to get into my second match and i spent over 30 minutes looking for a 3rd match and found one but for some stupid reason the game closed the match queue after accepting and put me back on the search for a match. I even made a discussion topic in the community hub about it, it really is that bad.

They could fix this problem partially by doing the following:
-deactivate ranked entirelly for EU and other regions facing the same issue;
-deactivate squad normal matches and solo (or duo), there should only be one playlist, so all players are pushed towards that playlist to reduce search time as much as possible;

This is sad tbh, game actually feels good and i like what they did here, i just can't accept the bad matchmaking and the devs are probably ignoring this issue, game requires solutions to fix playability, all i see is people posting about long matchmaking. Like me. So if you are in the EU region, good luck finding people to play with without spending 10+ minutes per match queue. You are likely to spend more time waiting than playing. Once you die in a match, you are booted to main menu again. Which means, you have to fight for survival and play safe (most people don't and decide to engage and get killed ASAP).

Fun little game. It is actually quite good too. Also a bit difficult at times.

From my playtime, the only downside i came across is the amount of grind it requires to unlock things.
