It's simply the best soulslike game not made by Fromsoft. Nothing else comes close.

A much needed and refreshing breath of fresh air in the city/colony building genre. I never would have thought to combine this style of rts builder gameplay with roguelike mechanics, but it creates one of the most addicting gameplay loops I've seen in a long time. If BG3 hadn't come out in the same year, Against the Storm would probably have been my GOTY for 2023.

It takes the best part of city builders - getting everything set up from nothing - and in a surprisingly satisfactory way, eliminates the tedium of ever expanding perfected sustainability by giving each run unique combinations of strengths/weaknesses/time-sensitive goals and a gratifying sense of closure rather than a slow fizzling out of fun. The meta goals between runs of completing seals before the blightstorm wipes your colonies off the map and climbing difficulty/prestige ties the whole thing together to keep pushing you forward to the next colony. If you like either subgenre, I highly recommend trying this fresh-take.

If you like both subgenres, my recommendation is that you start playing immediately.

At nearly 300 hours, I've hardly scratched the surface.

I've laughed, I've cried, I have audibly gasped. I fell in love with a buff cyborg demon lady and seduced a sassy vampire. The main cast of characters are emotionally complex and often charmingly witty. You can be as good or as evil as you want to be and every unique grey shade in between.
I've been left in total awe of what Larian has managed to accomplish here. It defies belief and my previous understanding of what was currently possible in video game design and interactive fiction.

It's quite possibly the best game that's ever been made.

This is the pinnacle of Roguelike fun. A beast of a game. I played Antibirth when it was just a fan mod and the official release is better than I could have asked for. Procedurally generated dungeon crawling just doesn't get better than this.

To those complaining about a lack of Mac support dragging the review score down, idk, just buy a real computer designed to play games

To say I've been pleasantly surprised would be a colossal understatement. This game is really something special.

It is something to be savoured, not consumed. It is addicting and comforting. It oozes with charm and love and heartbreak. It has made me laugh and it has made me cry. It was created by people that care... the result is magical.

I'm not ready to say goodbye yet, but I trust that I will be in the end.

I am deeply emotionally attached to a digitally rendered mountain floating in space.

Whatever you do, do not. I repeat. Do not press the keys "as,zb"

It will only cause pain and suffering.
