Before unlocking this review, you must wait for 3 hours for your "Review Reading" research to complete.

I will update this review if the game picks up pace, but 2/3 of our sessions so far have ended with us having LITERALLY NOTHING we can do other than wait for some bar to fill up.

This game makes me sad. It is released in a provably incomplete state, and they could very easily double the playtime with small changes such as more forced tasks between each disc mission, and quadruple the playtime by adding two of the scrapped maps on top of that. I wouldn't even be angry if some maps rewarded no weapons. Any excuse to keep me playing would be amazing. Sadly, these changes will seemingly be never be made, and my hope for seeing a DLC for this game is not very high, either.

I recommend this game exactly because the lack of content makes me sad. It is a simple yet incredible take on the extraction shooter genre. A lot of people call this game "very janky", but I think that is not fair as most of it is by design: The game is an FPS but, like any good FPS, it reinvents just enough that anyone can feel a sense of accomplishment as they play it and overcome the challenges. Some games do that by adding a gimmicky mechanic, and this game does it by adding its gimmicks into its core mechanics.

Around 2 hours of my playtime was spent AFK, so I got a total of 7 hours of playtime from this game. That is by seeing everything the game has to offer, and then doing a couple of extra raids on each cut stage (The game has 3 cut levels that it lets you play at the end). Then, I did one final raid where I reached Wave 10 from Wave 1, just to properly say goodbye to the game. Just surviving is not challenging as combat can mostly be avoided, so there really is not a single extra hour of playtime I can get out of this game. However, it was more than worth the price.

(Proof that the game is incomplete: There is Armor-Piercing sniper ammo. There is no armor -that I could find- that cannot be penetrated by default Sniper Ammo, making the AP ammo objectively worse despite being an upgrade. They were probably planning on adding more heavily opponents before releasing the game as it is.)

A must play game. Might be worth waiting for a discount, though.

woah it's been 4 hours already?

Sniper Elite 4 is easily one of the best co-op stealth games I’ve ever played. It nails what so many other games get wrong: Keeping stealth fun without constant save-scumming. The large, open maps are forgiving, so one small mistake doesn’t mean an instant reload. Instead, the game uses an awareness system where enemies gradually become more alert and their suspicion spreads across the map. Even if a body is spotted, enemies only search for a bit before calming down, letting you recover without ruining the entire mission. Also, crucially, it never fully locks you out of stealth, and you can always recover from any amount of enemy awareness.

We got the deluxe edition right away, and I am very happy with this decision. Considering how fast the 4 hours have passed, I doubt that this game will overstay its welcome.

My only real gripe is the auto-save system, which is way too aggressive. You can easily fill all the auto-save slots in just a couple of minutes, which means manual saves unnecessarily become a requirement. The audio design is also horrible in many ways, which often breaks immersion. There are also small annoyances, like sprinting forcing a super low mouse sensitivity, but they’re not deal-breakers considering how well the game plays. Overall, it’s been a fantastic experience so far.

For every gameplay element this game does great, you can check the reviews for the first game. The sequel brought only improvements upon them. (PS: This is by far the most immersive game ever.)

I am rewriting my review to keep it shorter, because I hadn't progressed much in the story when writing my first review. A lot of side-quests have main story quality of a regular RPG, and I will always praise that, but the writing for the main story quests of this game is on another level. It perfectly justifies plot elements that seem unimaginable at first, and it never holds back.

Skyrim doesn't understand war. Call of Duty says "war is hell" on the loading tips. This game makes you feel war.

I wasn't expecting a masterpiece. Please do not ruin the experience for yourself by playing it alone in your first playthrough.

Each level is unique with a "small game" approach to them, with puzzles that feel unique and polished. It also takes itself with just enough seriousness to allow you to get immersed while playing it.

I look forward to not only future levels of this game, but their future games, too, if they can keep up the quality of the first two levels.

"Played for 6.6 hours"
Literally all I did in that time was get confused, look up a guide, and then run from one end of the island to the other, until I got bored and never booted the game again.

This is despite having played the first game, and not feeling confused at all through it.

Getting shot by black pixels while the game feels like a slideshow on 60 FPS due to horrible frame pacing.

I was expecting a good game with bugs (like Cyberpunk was at release). I got a game that is so poorly designed and optimized that I am having a hard time pushing myself to even see the bugs.

80% of the time I have been getting shot by people that are literally impossible to see, which makes the ONLY counter hiding and waiting for them to rush you because of how useless your flashlight is. The other 20% also felt horrible anyway due to my aim constantly being held back by atrocious frame pacing.

How did they make this worse than the original trilogy..? Slightly hyped for years, massively hyped for weeks, waited five hours for the download... 60 minutes in and I already want to go back to playing other games.
