this review was made before i have been able to play update 13 most likely anything i say in this review is either made different or just downright wrong
general overview for those that done have alot of time: i think the game for the most part is 50/50 not bad but not very good and your experience on this game will vary wildly depending on if you are playing official servers or community modded servers overall i would give this game a solid 6/10 although with the amount of potential this game has if northwood does not ♥♥♥♥ this up that score will probably go up to a 7 or 8 until then i simply cannot recommend this game in its semi decent state especially with how ♥♥♥♥ the optimization is
now for those that have too much time on their hands
lets start with the good
1:game balance while its not terrible its not exactly the best either lets start with gun balence for the most part all the guns fit their roles quite well except for 2 the first one being the com 15 made obselete the moment you kill off a scientist and grab his card or when you find literally anything else and the second one being the mp9 or whatever the name of the gun that facility guards spawn with not a whole lot of attachment options and is made obsolete when you find a vector or anything above that which is not hard to do now for the SCP balence this game suffers from a rare condition that being when a SCP is buffed or completely reworked another SCPs balence is completely curb stomped into the ground SCP-049 as it is right now is nothing but a pain in the ass to play as and SCP-106 is better in some aspects and worse in others
2: the community: the overall community is very hit or miss if it misses it means you are in a server that has serious RP and no KOS as rules in its description you have micspamming ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and about 30 9 year olds who just got home from school and get better mic quality if they used sign language or if it hits you get the most ball bending ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane hilarious ♥♥♥♥ to happen with other people that just dont give a ♥♥♥♥ and wanna have fun in a game
3: the existence of SCP-914: SCP-914 is a very large aspect of the game and the outcome of rounds heavily center around whatever the ♥♥♥♥ the Dboys are making in there SCP-914 can make almost any item in the game and can turn a dboy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ into the chaos insurgency's little doomslayer providing you know the recipes on making ♥♥♥♥ some luck and some hope you dont have one of those ♥♥♥♥♥ that changes the setting to coarse or rough right before you go into the machine
lets get on with the bad now
1:the development cycle: while the dev cycle is better nowdays its still not exactly the best features that were announced years ago are still not in the game and this game suffers from "joke update/holiday update" syndrome where the april fools/halloween/christmas updates have more content than some flagship updates also the dev team cant seem to make up their minds on the balence of scps and other classes like dboys if you spawn in as a dboy you might as well kiss your sweet plump digital ass goodbye because the scientist that got a lucky spawn next to the toilets found a pistol and is rapidly closing in on your location either that or the facility guards found the elevators to light faster than their dad left them and with the layout of the maps and the rooms in general there are ♥♥♥♥ all places to get cover or really any way to hide best thing you can do is run and close doors that being said the rare times where you are dominating the lobby as a dboy feel so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good
2: the modding scene: as it stands right now the addons that currently exist are simply wonderful from basic QOL ♥♥♥♥ to full on gameplay changing addons that being said the addons you see are pretty much the only ones you are gonna see cause as it stands the modding support in this game is atrocious no ui modding capabilites you cant modify or add your own textures/models and for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason northwood removes all the april fools/halloween/christmas content and older ♥♥♥♥ like the old sci fi guns from the game files so something cool like the birthday cake or the christmas tree SCPs are impossible to add back until northwood sees that player number are getting low and decide to add them back in for a month and correct me if im wrong but dident northwood say that they would add all this modding support years ago?
3: the optimisation: the optimisation is god awful putting it bluntly and update 13 has probably made it even worse waiting for that promised optimisation update any day now

overall its a solid 6/10 provided you find a good server as a sidenote with the way the gaming industry is going im really hoping that northwood realizes the potential they have and dont ♥♥♥♥ this up anymore than they have until then i simply cannot recommend this game in its semi decent state especially with how ♥♥♥♥ the optimization is

every wipe is a unique experience cause somehow that 9 yr old thats always in the server you play has a fresh new insult to use

great concept ruined by 9 yr olds and cringy shietposters who think posting among us drip for the 4785th time is funny
