Early Access Review
I've been hoping to find something similar to the Armored Core series on PC since their releases on PS3, especially For Answer.

Even for its Early Access state, Project Nimbus presents quite well with some very intense gameplay in the first act.

-Both the story and survival mode take you through a fair mech variety, and learning the weapons and controls is fairly easy thanks to earlier missions introducing the mechanics.

-As of reviewing, I haven't found any sort of part customization. Considering you play as specifically customized battleframes, I can understand. Yet, features such as interchangable parts and weapons would be great to see.

-Sound design, music, and atmosphere are all excellently done with only a few encountered instances of voice actors talking over each other.

-The storyline for the first act feels just a bit condensed and hard to follow.

The experience for me was more short and sweet. For what I got, it very much exceeded what I expected of an Early Access title, particularly in the combat itself.

I've witnessed a motorcycle:
-Piledrive another motorcycle
-Shoot down multiple battleships
-Shoryuken a helicopter
-Pull off midair martial arts
-Traverse warheads a la Just Cause 2
-Battle in the style of Street Fighter
-Ride above water
-Combat mechs
-Eat ice cream
-Imbue the elements into its wheels
-Throw cars
-Use an innocent man as a sawblade
Fun~

This game is anti-disappoint.

The first thing that drew my notice to it were the wildly amazing boss tracks discovered after its console release, the second being that it had the Metal Gear name to it.

-While somewhat short, gameplay and pacing are done incredibly well with a rather diverse roster of enemies and unique boss personalities.
-Controls work wonderfully on a keyboard and mouse, which was my main concern for a port.
-Unlockable difficulties, collectables, and Raiden's customization/upgrade system keep replayability through several playthroughs.
-Again about the music. Wonderful, wonderful tracks to suit the action.
-The parry system sits on a different level from usual dodging or blocking in hack 'n' slash titles, rewarding skillful defense with offensive opportunities.
-The Blade Mode gimmick remains fun to use and doesn't overpower regular swordplay.
-There is 'a' stealth mechanic, but it isn't very strong or even necessary. It's mainly good for knocking out larger enemies before you're spotted. Besides, that's not what 'this' Metal Gear's about.
-Raiden's pretty strong. He lifts heavy things. He's also the hero of Mexico and Snake's personal stalker.

I'm generally glad to accept this spinoff as my first Metal Gear PC game.

Review's limited to singleplayer:
Really tried to enjoy this one because I got into the series very late and enjoyed Resident Evil 5, but it's a dying struggle. It definitely doesn't at all play like the recent titles, putting a prime focus on four-player (squad-based) shootouts. Unforunately, that killed the horror factor (which is pretty much dead already) and instead set a higher focus on firefights.

The above would be fine if more work was put into making the title more fun instead of different. However, it falls short, as most every other player might've complained.

-Mismatched horizontal/vertical mouse sensitivity
-Higher difficulties seem to only multiply enemy health, dragging out fights and bosses for far too long as you spend much of the time filling an enemy's head with more bullets than they have brain cells.
-Campaign felt rather short and anticlimactic, with the already iffy gameplay ruining encounters.
-Executing zombified teammates had no weight or tension since you could resurrect them a second later
-The healthy selection of characters doesn't make up for seemingly uninspired abilities and pretty much no character development, if that was even to be expected.
-Optimization was incredibly..not there. My framerate shot down before even exiting the elevator in the very beginning of the game.

I would only suggest playing without high expectations and with friends. It's not amazing, but playable, however not exactly worth playing.
