Early Access Review
The single map is very fun to play, the tasks are engaging and entertaining.

Month 4 after release, UI elements are missing even simple image previews. The developers put their effort towards making 3 expensive basic cosmetic packs instead of adding actual content to the paid game or even just finishing what's already there.

I would accept this if the game was free to play, but it isn't.

EAC crashes the game just as much as it allows me to invade. Broken products are not to be sold.

Think Indiana Jones more than Poltergeist.

Forewarned is a special game in the genre in that it strays away from the total focus on investigating and discovering a singular haunting entity, instead opting to widen the experience to be as much about the location as it is the entity.
The various maps of the game differ in ways that both add thematic variety and offer different gameplay experiences. Unlike in games such as Phasmophobia, the levels are almost active characters themselves. You have spike pits in one map and spinning flamethrowers in another, safety ramps in some and perpetual risk in others. Beyond structural dangers, different maps have different peon enemies as well, such as snakes crawlers.

Turning back to the mejai, Forewarned offers a good variety of investigative equipment and mejai types. Each mejai is wildly different, ensuring that they can never be confused for each other, and pushing the style of the game further from investigative rivals.
Something that this game does very nicely is make equipment solid and real int he world at all times. Equipment in your inventory still exists in the world -- items on the belt will still react to events and can still endanger the player with certain mejai. A held torch is good protection against wandering threats, but it can still be useful in this regard even when the player is not actively holding it thanks to items remaining active on belt.

Having played for over 40 hours, I'm now high enough level to have unlocked all equipment and equipment upgrades. Even yet, weekly challenges give special points which can be used for extra content not core to the experience, such as pets of various creatures with unique abilities, and full color/brightness selection for clothing.

As a final note, respawning as an evil mummy to scream at your fleeing friends is delightful!

Crashes constantly, performs terribly -- Johan Pilestedt has no business in the consumer goods market putting out products like this.

Very fun, relatively simple, insanely glitch-prone.

XCOM2 has some improvements but the formula has far too much Marvel in it for my liking. Earth united against an unknown menace from distant space is something later games simply do not offer.

Gears Tactics is very good as well, but lacks the classic sci-fi alien invasion theme, replacing high-tech with grunge and grime. Good game, also cannot fill the shoes of XCOM EU/EW.

Phoenix Point is supposedly fixed but I haven't played so I cannot vouch for that game.

Truly XCOM EU/EW offers something that no other game seems to offer me, it has quite a few flaws but there simply doesn't seem to be anything better to fill these exact shoes.

Stores saves in the registry, my records are all gone. This is still not fixed. Do not pay for incompetence.

A nice little game made by a tiny team. Very fun and simple, focused, narrow. The entire game consists of the player jumping, rolling, and swinging through 5 handfuls of levels with a few types of obstacles.

I have 2 complains about this game;
1) Controls seem to not be configurable. Presets are not an adequate replacement for re-bindable controls.
2) The lava has mondo bloom and other visual effects that make ti very hard to see, I got stuck at 1 level because I couldn't see the land and had to guess my way through.

6/10 game, worth a few bucks.

A very nice tabletop adaptation in a real-time style.
BFG Armada has a nice variety of ship variants for the player to choose from, made of basic templates modified through upgrades and "favors" which are essentially sub-classes.
The main campaign is composed of procedurally generated missions with a few special enemies sprinkled about; fun at first, bland and tedious as the game drags on and refuses to end in a timely manner.

I see a lot of reviews complain about Eldar and Ork missions early on. This may have been different in the past but as of March 2024, these missions are not unfair or wildly difficult. As the game is now, an entire playthrough will be of fair difficulty and manageable without prior naval combat experience.

I would say that this (base, non DLC) game is currently 8/10.

Framerate drops from stable 120 FPS to extreme fluctuations between 25 and 45 FPS for the rest of the match with no discernible cause. Performance is wildly unreliable in training mode and online multiplayer.
