Fun game, lots of good platforming and the enemies are interesting. Beautiful art style, and the story and score are touching and impactful. Some of the platforming mechanics aren't super tight, but they feel pretty organic that way. While the map is pretty, it's weird how the worlds are separated when fully zoomed out and also that the world is entirely contiguous within that. Also, snapping to the warp zones doesn't let you look around properly without slowly moving the camera, makes it harder to decide where you're going.

All things considered this is a great game. Totally worth it at full price, no excuses not to play at sale prices.

Early Access Review
I was pretty disappointed by this game.

The game's design is definitely heavily derivative (aka overwatch rip-off,) but that isn't really an issue for me. Who originated the ideas for a game, character, etc aren't all that important as long as the concepts are implemented well. However, there are huge problems with the way they are used in this game. There's a passionless cynicism behind these characters, which are developed only at the surface level for playability. Maps are designed with hyperfocused choke points surrounded by open sight-lines, forcing play to be confined and limited to open brawls or 1 on 1 chases. Movement in this game is so unsatisfying and poorly designed it makes me sad; whats the point of aim assist if most of the characters can't even double jump up a basic ledge. Even menus often feel unfinished - I've seen so many bugs it makes my skin crawl.

Those things aside, the thing that really kills it for me is the matchmaking, which is absolutely atrocious. I'm sure this problem is exacerbated by a decline in players from its original launch, but that doesn't excuse how slow and simple it is. It's like jumping back into the days of Tribes Ascend, except that game functioned better than this pile.

If Hi-Rez wants me to believe this game is still in "Early Access" they should probably spend time on real content (well thought out maps, balancing characters, building community functions, making early game content palatable, etc) rather than adding thoughtless and poorly animated poses, and other in game DLC that improves little.

By the way, this is the kind of game where they don't really let you play anything interesting unless you pay in. They've intentionally left the early gameplay as an incentive to buy a booster so that you can join competitive quickly. That's what I'm basing my review on. If its unfair to base a review on what they've made available to you without payment in a free to play game, then that's their own fault. They require almost double my current level and 12 heroes (which they don't provide free :teehee:,) so I can imagine it taking 10s or scores of hours to achieve matchmaking in competitive.

tl;dr
Definitely a knockoff; poorly designed maps/characters; clear pay to play systems; very little if any early game content; advertisments to buy in everywhere; glitchy menus even; dwindling community; passionless cynical game development.
