The good ol' days!

When I first got the game, I joined one of the few official EU servers which were nearly impossible to play - low ping, but super laggy and every inch of land had been claimed by a tent or house. There's not much of a tutorial and with a player-placed turret waiting around every corner, it was a pretty harsh environment for a noob. I tried to get to grips with it, but after being killed twenty times and making zero progress, I refunded the game and called it a day.

HOWEVER, I decided to give Longvinter another shot today after watching some YouTube videos. I repurchased the game and joined an unofficial server with fewer players. This experience has been SO much better! Now I'm not in a laggy server filled with dupe glitched turrets, I've been able to explore the islands and learn the mechanics of the game. The other players I've met have been welcoming and happy to teach me anything I was unsure of.

The game is compared to Rust a lot, but it's certainly not as hardcore. You loot monuments for loot (this is the main gameplay loop) and can sell found items at various outposts. Different outposts buy/sell for different prices and there are boats that can transport you between them. In its current state, the PvP/PvE is very limited and could definitely do with more polish. The raiding isn't comparable to Rust as you can only loot things outside a player's house, meaning players will store their valuable items indoors.

The game provides you with a compendium to complete for plants, fish and feathers which is a fun objective to focus on whilst getting your tent placed and slowly upgraded to a House. Beyond this though, the game runs out of solid content and you are left to make your own fun with other players.

In its current state, Longvinter is definitely worth the money and I'm looking forward to seeing where Uuvana Studios take the game next. It definitely has a few annoying bugs (I've had achievements not popping and been unable to pick up some items), but it's nothing gamebreaking. It's a fun game with a nice community, once you dig below the surface!

I am not buying Elden Ring until I 100% this game.

EDIT: It is done. 10/10 game, but my arm is permanently cramped now.
