A good survival-FPS I must say.Very much alike to the fallout series yet FPS becomes more dominant than RPG in this game.You can be a ninja and melee a group of super-mutants in fallout due to its rpg elements(perks,poweramor,etc),yet in STALKER you can only rely on your headshot skills and pray that the little bandit you are fighting won't throw a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ grenade right below your belt without even seeing where you are(And they hit the spot every time!).Current working on it and hope to beat it soon so I can get my hands on its sequel I've just bought.
Anyway here are some pros and cons to summarize:
Pros:
1.Realistic pack-limit.When you play an open-world rpg,I bet most of you have developed a habit of looting every foe you kill and take everything so you can sell to a merchant to make money.Yet in this game you will find out soon enough that you can only carry so LITTLE.Normally I carry a rifle,one elite rifle just in case and a side arm pistol,some ammo,and a few bandages,medkits,anti-rads,and some everyday stuff.And THAT's ALL YOU CAN CARRY,if you loot and take everything from your enemy's corpse you won't get tired really fast(exceeding your pack limit) or even become completely immobilized(10 kg above your pack limit).
2. Fantastic night sight and weather system.(Probably have some thing to do with the STALKER COMPLETE 2009 MOD)
When the sun sets.It'be better if you crawled into your sleeping bag and actually sleep like in real life.If you dare to venture out at night you will find it hard to survive as you will either:A.Turn on the flash light and become a easy target and die quickly.B Turn off the flash and you can's see ♥♥♥♥!And also he weather system will change your sensibility and the sensibility of your enemies.During a rainy night the sounds will cover your footsteps for a sneak-in slit throat and you may be able to detect your enemy via the moonlight on a clear night.
3.Atmosphere and sound effects are captivating.You can sometimes here the howl of a monster or some distant gunshots in a vast plain,as where as strange the cry of babies when you ventured in some underground tunnels.They really creates a horrifying atmosphere as if you are really in a apocalypse.And when you finally make it to a camp and take a deep breath,you will find it extremely comforting to see one of the fellow stalkers take out a guitar and slowly plays some gentle Russian folk tunes.
Cons:
1.Just like fallout ,the survival element aren't emphasized enough.The game time elapse the same speed in real world so you won't get hungry normally in one gameplay experience (say 2hours).You can manually speed up the time though and you will find soon enough when it gets dark and you can't see anything and regret changing that!(Sight at night is a pro BTW).
2.Weapons feels really strange to handle.It feels like neither the normal FPS type(COD,Metro,Farcry,etc) nor the shooting simulator type(ARMA,Red Orchestra,etc).It just feels so strange,can't really tell what's wrong.
3.No quick-save option.Even if you can do it via the COMPLETE MOD,you will generate a save file every time you quick save and I JUST DELETE 1GB of saves after about 5 hours of gameplay. And there's no quick travel mechanics as well.(The Mod add a teleport option and that literally means TELEPORT(1000 miles in 0 seconds and you can teleport to somewhere you haven't even been to)
To conclude,as a fallout and survival game fan I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME

NEVER SEEN SUCH A POORLY OPTIMIZED GAME LIKE THIS.
You have to meet a least the recommended requirement on steam store page to get this game properly running,
let alone to turn to ultra high video setting (as you expected before purchasing).
Besides this game is basically a non-pixel version of MineCraft yet at least I was having fun playing Minecraft fluently on my computer.
I was expecting something like coop-survival and competing like DayZ or something,yet it turned out to be a poorly optimized fake of MineCraft.
Now I am expecting that Microsoft and Mojang will do a better job in their next version of Minecraft and hopefully launch it on steam.

Stopped playing since micro transaction started.
Also the updating scheme is killing your disk.
