Grey Zone marketed as a PvEvP, emphasis on the PvE as well, has a glaring problem. The subpar AI. Rather than presenting any challenge the AI's responses are disappointingly simplistic, especially in a game which seems to give significance to the PvE. So far, they seem to merely resort to shooting back randomly without any other tactics, taking cover, moving flanking etc. The only method they seem to employ is walking or running towards you and firing at you. This results in no sense of fighting an opponent, leaving encounters feeling lifeless and devoid of any real challenge.

The game has a clunkiness feel to it and desync seems very common. Movement feels sluggish, combat lacks fluidity, and interactions with the game world feel disjointed. Movement is really weird in this game. There is no in-between of walking at a snail's pace when aiming and a full sprint. Animations also added to the clunkiness, they are completely lifeless, and vaulting is also glitchy sometimes just teleporting.

Perhaps the most egregious flaw lies in the implementation of helis. Other players can easily detect the sound of approaching helis, even if they're not actively camping an LZ, some are so close to major questing areas that camping them is unavoidable. Ultimately players will rush towards the landing zone. In my 14 hours, 4 out of the 8 encounters with enemy players have been at an LZ during a landing, either them or me.

Overall I can't see the vision, PvE is incredibly tedious, and PVP has no sense of danger, for some reason gear just doesn't seem to have any significance. The PVP I have encountered so far lacks any precariousness or gratification, Within my 14 hours I acquired 6 modded M4s and straight away, I felt no gear fear or excitement if I killed someone with what would be considered good gear. Making a comparison to any survival game, dare I mention Tarkov here; but the sense of danger or finding rare items in these games just doesn't exist at all in Grey Zone.

In my opinion, I just can't see myself playing this game, It's not even the bugs or poor performance that put me off, a lot of what I mentioned could be fixed. However, there is something fundamental wrong with the gameplay loop which doesn't draw me in at all.

This game is so bare bones, the only difference is the visual overhaul. Half the features and physics are missing. As everyone has already mentioning the performance is really awful. I'm on a 13900k and a 4080 and getting sub 40 fps. I think the real kick in the teeth is the price tag, maybe i'd accept the 'early access' if the price was more acceptable.

I legit found this game a buggy and boring mess, the stupid amount of random events and animals you run into every 5 seconds is annoying af. Far Cry died after 3 dont waste your time or money even on sale

I've been following eco for a while now but waited for the steam version as i was not sure about the game. The game is great, it reminds me of the old Tekkit days on minecraft. Building, making new tools and machines but in a new aspect which is really different from most games. Your actions have consequences which most games dont have. You cant mass resources or kill animals over and over because you'll destroy the ecosystem. The game cant be grinded because items take quite a long time to build (sometimes an hour +) so its more focused on playing for a month, a few hours a week rather than playing 3, 10 hour days.

Its not bad for the price tag, there is quite a few bugs i've found. The gameplay is quite simple, make sure you have food and water supply, build your base and keep your oxygen / power supply to what is require. upgrade your landing pad to allow larger payloads to be sent. The replay value of the game is quite low, after maybe two / three games i can see myself not playing it again. However it has been fun so far. For the price give it a try. 7/10
