Early Access Review
By far the best melee VR game.Currently a wave-fighter and still in early access, yes, but dev is active on discord and puts out frequent updates from feedback making me look forward to each update.

Early Access Review
Absolutely worth the money.

Pros
  • Gorgeous
  • Sweat while having a blast
  • Catchy tracks
  • "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" laughs
  • Lightsabers
  • Satisfying hits
  • The "Dodge Walls" are a nice addition that keeps you moving and can even make you feel like you're "dancing" to the beat

    ------

    Cons
  • Small amount of tracks

The low song count is easily forgiven though, as this is early access and literally just released. The game as a whole is so smooth and polished. Haven't had this much fun with a rhythm game since the OG Guitar Hero released.

Looking forward to any and all updates to the game and hoping for the community track additions, if at all possible, to exponentially grow the library!

The closest I've seen to the freedom of DnD put into a video game (even over the official DnD games...)

As an example of the freedom provided, here is an example quest you would encounter:
There is an <enemy> you were sent to kill because he stole the <quest giver's> <item> and you are to return said item to the quest giver:

- receive objective and start quest
- straight up complete quest the way it was asked of you
- OR talk to someone the "right" way and learn info that complicates things
- OR find evidence through explorations that complicates/benefits/hinders things
- OR depending on what character you chose in the beginning, <quest giver> or <enemy> might have history with you and attack/help/trust/not trust/give additional quest/etc
- OR you had already stumbled upon that <enemy> and killed him already so you get the reward
- OR you had already stumbled upon that <enemy> and he gave you a quest to kill the <quest giver> before the <quest giver> could talk to you
- OR you decide to lie to <quest giver> and say you killed <enemy> but he didn't have the item just to get a half reward
- OR persuade <enemy> to just give you the item back and leave town/apologize/fake his death/etc
- OR you kill <enemy> and tell <quest giver> that <enemy> didn't have the item on him and you keep the item for yourself
- OR you sneak up and pickpocket <enemy> and take <item> without killing him and return the <quest giver> and return <item> (and/or lie about killing <enemy>)
- OR you kill/steal from <enemy>, return <item> to <quest giver>, recieve reward, THEN pickpocket <quest giver> and take the item back for yourself
- OR tell the guards that <enemy> stole and the guards will kill him for you
- OR lure <enemy> near the guards, get <enemy> to attack you, and have the guards finish him
- OR teleport <enemy> to <quest giver> with a power you learned and get them to fight it out themselves
- etc etc etc

That's just the options with this one scenario. There are many more diverse quests that you can use your imagination + character skills + game mechanics to solve in a way that seems natural, inventive, beneficial, or just fun. This is expounded when you add in the Game Master mode that essentially lets you control every aspect of the game (map, story, dialogue, enemies, items, encounters, hidden secrets, etc etc) and even dnd aspects like die rolls for choices/actions to allow literally whatever solution you can imagine.

I haven't even touched the diversity of combat or skills or items or interactivity of the world or the many different paths you can take in the game, but there are plenty of other reviews that go in depth on those.

By far my favorite rpg and can't wait for any additions/sequels.

I want to start off by saying this is one of the VERY few games that I've played in a long time that I've enjoyed this much. While single player is definitely an option, playing with friends is an absolute *must*, as I don't think we went more than 2 mins in the entire playthrough without cracking up to the point of tears/out of breath over the dumbest scenarios or yelling "that worked?!?" / "No way!" / "Wait, what?!".

The simplicity (yet small learning curve to "master") of the controls + (hilarious) physics based mechanics + puzzle solving + friends = an absolute blast. I highly recommend this game for anyone looking to:

* just have a good time laughing with friends
* coming up with creative solutions to puzzles (and even finding shortcuts/alternative solutions)
* enjoy just messing around in a game every so often

The current $7.50 price for the winter sale makes it a must have recommendation for me. Though, for $15, I would like to see a bit more content to make it worth it (or steam workshop/level creator would be better imo).

Don't review games much at all, but felt compelled to leave one for this game. TL;DR - Really polished and fun mechanisms/interactions. Worth the money and can't wait for the next one.

I just wanted to point out a few pros and cons:

PROS
  • Telekinesis The telekinesis mechanic is one of the best feeling I've used in a game. It has some weight and speed behind it all while making you feel in full control
  • Mini puzzles. Opening containters/doors/elevators were a delight and fun
  • Story. I actually enjoyed listening to the flashbacks and dialogue
  • Journals. I ABSOLUTELY loved the "book/journal" mechanic of tearing away the ball and having parts of the journal fly up and form the panels around your hand. "turning the page" of the panels felt smooth and made reading easy. I was smiling like a fool the first time I "opened" one.
  • Graphics were nice. Not mindblowing, but def enjoyed it.
  • Cinematic. Very cinematic feeling, definitely when first "transporting" and activating the machines.
  • Enjoyed the various puzzles
  • Interactions. Lots of things to interact with and some of the interactions were cool to due via your hex hand.
  • Better pacing than episode 1, since you already have your "power" at this point.

CONS
  • A littleee hard to aim the "gun" (can't remember the name..Aba...Abalest?...) Maybe having a guide like the "test" one in the lab would have made it easier to aim. Though, there were seldom times where it was actually needed.
  • Would have liked to use the "Abalest" more often for puzzle solving and/or combat, but, just like the hex, we might see more use of it in the next episode.
  • Backtracking. I understand it can be useful for getting more time out of a smaller map, but the backtracking really slowed down the pace of the game due to the loading screens between areas.
  • Backtracking. Due to the backtracking, you might find yourself becoming frustrated with a puzzle but later find out you can't solve it until you go back and get/activate something from a previous area and return to finish the puzzle.
  • Somewhat short (4+ hours) but, tbh, some of the most enjoyable 4+ hours I've had in VR and still feel it's worth it.

Holopoint is definitely in my top 5 favorite VR games. This, along with Space Pirate Trainer, is one of the few games that actually makes me feel like a badass. Once you get the hang of the aim and the enemy's actions/types, it's just really hard not to feel like you are some master bowman weaving and dodging and shooting in every direction.

I never fail to come out of the game smiling, arms sore, out of breath, and drenched in sweat. This is not a game for couch potatos who don't want to move while playing a video game. This game will give you a workout. But it's one of the most fun ways to workout that I know of.

Definitely would recommend.

Very simple gameplay that proved to be challenging at certain levels. The narrator was spot on (loved the british accent). One of the few, all around "feel good" games in my library. Would recommend.
