TL/DR: Lacking overall, actually a downgrade from the main game.

Apart from the additional furniture, menu items, etc. there are two new additions. First they've seperated the guests as pirates and sailors. Tables now can be assigned to either the sailor faction or the pirate faction and the corresponding npcs occupy the tables. And that is about it. This mechanic has no effect on the gameplay and no consequences whatsoever. It is a completely meaningless addition to the game. You'd think they would create some sort of game mechanic based around the two factions, like serving too many pirates could hurt your ability to serve the sailors or focusing on serving one faction would unlock specific routes for your ship crew or something along these lines However, no such mechanic exists.

The second thing added is that you now have a ship for which you hire a sailor crew, similar to how you hire waitresses and chefs in the main game. You can send your ship on missions which when completed gives you rewards like unlocks, customer boosts etc. To send the ship on a mission you need to have enough upgrades on the ship for the mission, and you have to cook food for the crew. The upgrades cost a good amount of your currency and you pretty much have to do upgrades after every mission as the minimum power cap increases quite quickly. Overall, the ship mechanic is basically this: buy enough upgrades to satisfy enough ship power for the mission (ie. spend a good chunk of money), wait for the meals to be prepared, pay to start the mission (again a good chunk), wait for mission to be completed(takes 1-3 days), repeat. So it is just paying to start a timer, wait for timer to end, then start the timer again. No engagement for the player at all.

I also did not mention that this ship mechanic completely replaces the tech tree in the main game. So only way to unlock stuff is through ship missions. The tech tree was already a very engaging part of the original setting, now replacing it with a system that has no player input has made the experience very dull. The player spends all their money on the ship upgrades and mission costs, otherwise they cant progress in the game any further. When they spend all their money on the ship, they cant customize their tavern, which is the most fun part of the game. So not only is this mechanic not engaging, it actively staggers your ability to do other things.

Other significant changes: events and guest rarities also do not exist in this version. Event planning was an integral part of what made Tavern Master so fun. It constantly gave you something to aim for and was satisfying when you executed it. Without anything to replace it, this turns the dlc into a waiting fest. Every guest is the same and you have nothing to look forward to. You just spend all your money for the ship mission and do nothing but wait. Bar upgrades also dont exist in this version, they are replaced with a pirate bar which cant be upgraded.

In conclusion this dlc strips away what makes Tavern Master fun and replaces them with mechanics that are dull. If you loved the base game and are really looking for something slightly new maybe this could entertain you for a bit but i really wouldnt recommend it for anyone else.
