this game gets a very cautious recommendation from me

on one hand, i enjoyed my time with the game, and damn near burst into tears several times, especially at the final ending.

nier replicant is definitely a victim of its era, with annoying fetch quests and lack of decent travel (seriously you have to run almost everywhere, way too much time is spent on foot).

regardless, coming from automata, my favorite game of all time, i still came away satisfied seeing the world before automata, and the relationships between characters.

i can confidently say, that the nier universe is probably my absolute favorite, and i'm intending to continue delving into the world of nier in the future.

it did take me two tries to actually get through the game, but i'm glad i returned. i can definitely recommend modding the game for a smoother experience. personally, i did the following, based on another review:
- downgraded to v1.0
- did a local install of special K
- enabled high dynamic frame rate
- installed a reshade filter (used "clean reshade present" from nexusmods)

genuinely the most profound and beautiful game i've ever played

100 hours later, and almost a year to get all achievements. best money i've spent. put on a youtube video on a secondary monitor, and you've got endless entertainment.

I hate to continue saying the things the rest of the reviews are already saying, but this is honestly one of the greatest games I've ever played. The story is extremely hard hitting and emotional. Every nook and cranny is filled with detail and purpose.

A charming, yet flawed, platformer. There certainly exists worse way to spend 30 minutes.

Hot take: This is one of the greatest video game sequels, ever.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a phenomenal sequel, which builds upon everything great about Ori and the Blind Forest. The presentation from start to finish is incredible, and I never found myself bored. Every area is sprawling with life, no area is dull.

If you liked Ori and the Blind Forest, I have no doubt in my mind you'll like this even more.
