Early Access Review
game is cool and its funny that it filters 90% of cruelty squad players because you have to read

(the sentence above is all that's left from my original review, and it's why a bunch of ppl got mad at me in the comments and clown-awarded this lmfao)

there's a lot of complaints about "lack of content" from people with 0.3 hrs in the game, but the game actually takes like 20-30 hours to beat
(depending on how much you engage with side content)
(also note that this review was written by the first week of early access, there's lots more content coming)

a huge part of this game to me is the writing, i've read every bit of text in this game in the dialogue, quest logs, journal, database, etc and there just isn't anything like it out there, it's one of the few rpgs i've played that tries to be funny but is actually funny

if you see the way ppl online try to emulate the dev's writing, they think it's supposed to be ironic nihilistic "schizocore" babble, but it's not like that at all

afaik the dev hasn't played it, but this game has a similarity with disco elysium where you run around doing questionable things for random people as an incompetent weirdo cop where every possible action you can take in the game is 100% in-character

but in disco elysium a lot of the humour is that you're playing as an embarrassing drunk loser with a badge, and in ppr a lot of the humour is that you're playing as patrick bateman if he was a very gullible fbi agent with a gay crush on his boss

the personality of the recruit (player character) is basically my favourite part of the game, he regularly writes down his thoughts within the in-game journal for you to read

the gameplay itself is very contentious and i was skeptical of it at first, but i've adapted and have grown used to it to find it really enjoyable

not everyone is gonna like it, but not every game is for everyone

from what i can tell, the game's mechanics and systems was mainly inspired by stalker, dark souls, swat 4, and deus ex 1

(it kinda feels like one of the only dx1-inspired games i've played that actually gets why dx1 was fun)

you should NOT expect it to play like cruelty squad at all if that's what's you're expecting, here's a guide i wrote as a sort of quickstarter for dealing with the game's difficulty: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3454663866

also, a lot of entitled people mald about the $40 price tag but it's well worth it if this is the kind of game you'd enjoy

if you can't afford it then the dev literally actively encourages you to pirate it and deliberately made it so the game can run without steam, plus even most of the game's community will just share with you a free download link of their copy if you ask nicely

this game is very creative and has unique mechanics that really get you thinkign and the music is awsome, i think what would make it perfect is it had some sort of tribute to the late shinzo abe, it doesn't need to stand out, it could just be within the flavour text of some item or npc
