The concept is SO good, but the whole experience just isn't much fun, for reasons that I can't really put my finger on.

The core conceit is that you are in charge of a colony, and your people are represented by dice. Each die is a person. That person's profession dictates what abilities they'll have on their six faces. You roll them, and deploy them to do tasks that match the face that comes up. And then you can do crazy stuff like levelling up faces on a die, or combine multiple dice to get these hybrid construct dice that are more powerful, and it's just a wonderful idea!

But the interface is just a little too clunky, and the rewards structure is lacking, and the guidance about what you should be doing next isn't great. The overall package is a game with a fantastic core idea, and then a surrounding execution that doesn't quite back it up. It's just not satisfying to play.

I was on the fence in terms of "thumbs up vs thumbs down," because the main mechanic is really neat and I'm glad I got a chance to try it out. If you're like me and think you might like it just for the novelty, then I *do* actually recommend it! But for the average person, and thinking of it as a whole game, I had to come down on the "thumbs down" side.

They've somehow gamified the job of editing a live news broadcast, and even if that was a disaster I'd probably still recommend it for the novelty. But it's not a disaster! It's actually pretty fun!

In an unusual step for a game these days, Not For Broadcast includes a large amount of well-produced and acted video footage of fictional news broadcasts that document a nation's decline into far-left totalitarianism. You, as the editor of that news program, can influence the outcome, making the government and some corporations look better or worse as you decide. I haven't explored how many branches they have, but certainly enough for at least two full playthroughs if you're so inclined. In addition to the choice aspect, there's added challenge in that you need to do a "good" job editing to keep the audience interested (for a reasonably well-specified definition of "good"), and you have to deal with various malfunctions and other challenges caused by faulty equipment or other outside factors.

I think it was a strange choice to have the apocalyptic scenario involve a populist far left government, especially coming from a British developer. With things like Brexit and UKIP happening in the real world, I think that a populist far right government would have hit a little closer to home and felt more plausible. It didn't ruin the experience, it just could have been more effective. The content also involves a lot of slapstick comedy mixed in with the descent into totalitarianism. Some of the jokes land, others don't, but it's good touch.

I had one unexplained crash that caused me to lose a small amount of progress (less than 5 minutes). Also I can hear my PC fans ramping way up during some loading scenes or menus. I don't think it ever lasts long enough to ruin a video card like the situation people were having with New World, but it's a little sloppy.

Overall I recommend this game! It's a novel experience, and reasonably well-done. A few minor technical snags and questionable plot choices aren't enough to spoil it. Give it a shot!

A mediocre survival game. The art is well-done, and probably the biggest selling point, although I'm not a fan of the character design. Gameplay is tedious and uninspired. There's something of a story to it, but questlines are difficult to follow and just end abruptly with no indication of whether or not they'll pick up again.

It's fine, but I wouldn't recommend it over the many other survival games out there.

Played at version 0.7 early access. A fine little sandbox game. Nothing revolutionary yet, but it's fun! Pacing is a little off (too slow at the beginning, too fast later on). That can probably be easily corrected as it continues through development. The system where you build houses, put them up for sale, and then random villagers move in is really neat!
