Game runs really well for me on release day. There was a hickup here and there in the begining but I played my first playthrough with no issues or framedrops in-game of any kind. Slight issues with cutscenes on release.

Thanks Arksys! It's great to see more fighters on PC. Hopefully REVELATOR can be ported to PC around the time of console localization.

I found this game to be very difficult to start playing, since the game only offers a pretty simple tutorial and links to youtube videos so you can figure out what's going on. I spent hours trying to map almost hundreds of functions to a gamepad so I could play the game effectively. Unfortunately I ran into a lot of obstacles when trying to play this game, including the questing system. I then spent hours trying to find some artifact somewhere in the universe in order to make a little bit of money. It was just too much of a hassle for me so I stopped playing. If new players can get past this I bet they will find something worth while in Elite Dangerous.

I can recomend this game, but it does have a few issues. Most of the other reviews explain what is great about this game very well. So in this review I'm going to summerize the major issues. I feel these issues hurt the game-feel and break immersion. Hopefully this could help people determine wheather this game is still worth it to them. My biggest gripes with this game are down to the environments, animations, gameworld interactivity.

The environments are terribly bland in most areas. The ground and wall textures are very low resolution most of the time apart from the stone floors of ruins, which have designs and patterns on them. The character models look great it's just a shame the rest of the world doesn't. The lack of any foliage and loosely scattered trees was very unexpected coming from a ps4 game. It would have made the world feel a lot more vibrant even with some more general foliage.

The animations of monsters outside and (sometimes) inside of battle a very abrupt. Landing a preemtive strike was nearly impossible for me the first 20 hours of the game until I got used to the jerky animations. If your playing ToZ vanilla at 30 fps, it can be pretty hard to predict enemy movements in battle. This is an essencial part of the gameplay mechanics since dodging and blocking at the right moment gives you huge benifits in battle. Plus playing at 30 fps can be really diffcult since you have even less time to react to the very fast enemy attacks.

I enjoyed interacting with the various party members and listening to their mediocre (but punny dialogue). On the other hand the gameworld itself has very few ways you can interact with it. Most of the interactable objects throughout the world will be question marks, (???) these are 4 abilities you gain later in the game that help you progress past whatever obstacle was in your way. Besides talking to people this is your only way to interact with the world. This system reminds me of a metroidvania style game but very, VERY, poorly done. Press a direction on the d-pad, and you've solved the puzzle.

Sorry for the little rant, just though it would be important for people to understand some of the issues with this game, although I would recommend it for its combat.

Early Access Review
This game has such great potential. The gameplay feels responsive and is simple yet chalenging to play. You have a dash or a block for defence, and a ranged "ball attack" or melee attack for offence. This is the extent of gameplay at the begining of the game. Their are upgrades which can give your character new skills and buffs. Using all your characters abilities is essential to defeating enemies quickly and effectively. Often I found I needed to learn the pattern of enemies and adapt how I played.

Your main character's ranged attack "ball" attack can bounce a few times when charged up. This is great since dungeons so far mainly consist of puzzles, which utilize this mechanic very well. This mechanic so far has not gone stale, since thier are many objects your ball can trigger, reflect, pass though, remove, and hopefully their will be more things your ball can do. I hope the devs continue with this because bosses could be such a treat to defeat. Their will be some more mechanics added later which look like you can change "elements" of your attack mid battle.

So far CrossCode has some interesting RPG-like equipment system for armor, weapons, etc, which can be crafted from materials you find in the world and traded in for wearable equipment at vendors.
Overall CrossCode could be a fantastic RPG with a fairly unique combat system. In it's current state, CrossCode is very polished and up to my standards in terms of game-feel. This game just feel great to play! The fast pased action coupled with the meticulous puzzles offers a fantastic experience. As long as Radicalfish continue development, like they have been. I would recomend this game even in it's unfinished state.
