I remember originally playing this game on my old Windows 3.1. DOS game installed with 7 3.5in floppy drives. Ancient technology HA! At that age, this game was way beyond me. I always lost to the overwhelming AI and the very punishing quick progression of the invasion. Coming back to it years later as an adult...and it still thrashes me. Still it hails back to a time when game devs didn't pander to the people and created games that were as difficult as they wanted it to be. With decent strategy and A LOT of saves, it is beatable. Isometric 3d top down turn based RPG at it's finest. If you want flashy graphics...well they were flashy back in the day so at least there's the nostalgia aspect there. Fantastic game though.

This game has consumed my life. I'm breathing, eating, sleeping, working, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ark. It's so in depth as far as the community on the server's, it has its own culture. The official servers tend to have their own governing system depending on the alpha tribe and its own economy. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. There are definitely a lot of things that Wildcard could be doing to optimize their engine and improve the game but they seem to currently be driven on increasing content. Content is fantastic and keeps the community engaged, but so often I got lag spikes that are literally crippling. Massive rubber bands. Can lag so hard you d/c from the server. I had this happen to me while flying a ptera, which automatically knocks you off your mount. Logged back in falling to the ground only do die and was unable to retrieve my ascendant gear which took me literally HALF THE DAY to grind out materials for. Overall if you enjoy an in depth game with a little something for everyone from PvP, PvE, building, farming, fishing...Get Ark.

First things first rest in peace uncle Phil...

Now...

I've seen the anime, and wasn't super into it. It was nice and all, but not my bag. On to the game:

As far as shooters go, there's a tried and true formula and the one that everyone seems to enjoy the most is the CoD...I don't personally understand it, but that's fine.

This game has great qualities and is trying to mix it up. Unique abilities per operator that can give a strategic advantage in the game definitely adds a great element to the game play. It's not OP because both sides can have it and stronger abilities have a longer wait time to execute. Also if an entire team is using one operator...it's pretty easy to pick them apart by using a better strategy.

The guns have a pretty decent balance and the devs have done a good job with them. SMG's don't work for crap at range unless you fire slowly and the dmg is so minimal that anyone with an AR is going to pick you off pretty quickly if they can aim decently. The AR's fire slow and in CQB, the SMG will tear them apart. Of course there's your one shot sniper, but we are all used to that so it's hardly an issue. Small ammo capacity and slow reload time plus the slower ADS due to the scope is all factored in.

The match bonuses add a great little element too. I know when I was just short of hitting the next rank I was praying for an EXP +10% and pumped my fists in the air like an idiot when I rolled it.

Operator customization is weak at the moment, but I'm sure there will be tons of options once it actually rolls out. We are still playing Early Access so there's a lot to come out in the near future. The little cyber implants also give a little edge too and is nice to use to help with things like quicker reloading or faster strafing. I personally use the SMG and am zipping all over the place spraying my load in everyone's face so I fancy the quick reload and strafing.

Currently I feel the level progression is a little slow for my taste, but then again if I reached the top too quickly I'd probably get bored in a way. Even though, once I've hit the maximum unlocks, I know I'll still have fun playing just to wreck other people...

All in all I'd definitely recommend this game to everyone who likes FPS. More features will roll out and Nexon has a great habit of doing lots of events to keep the community interested. Good job Nexon USA!
