Incredibly good. New UI changes (as of 03/15/2025) are really nice and spurned me to write this review for some reason. I have a lot of hours in CK2 and I'm starting to love this one as much, now that I've had more time with it. Would recommend it.

The new patch has provided a change to the base game that has significantly improved since it's first iteration. I'm having a lot of fun with it and I would certainly recommend it in it's current state; the dev's have me excited to see what's in store for the Livy patch.

Early Access Review
My time with Caves of Qud hasn't been as extensive as some other players or even other games that I own. However, it is one of the few titles I've played that has spurred me to write a review for it. Sitting at 'Overwhelmingly Positive' in it's lifetime reviews and, currently, 'Very Positive' for it's most recent, mine is but a drop in the bucket. I'm basically doing this for analytics to suppor the developer, but I thought I'd give an actual opinion and not just a thumbs up. ♥♥♥ should be an easy sell to anyone looking for a good rogue-like and especially to someone looking to purchase one on Steam. However, I'd like to point out that even to those who 'can't get into' or just haven't tried a lot of rouge-likes I'd say ♥♥♥ is highly recommended if you even like RPG's or in-depth character creation.
There's always a new way to play your character or mutation combinations to try; the developer is adding new cities and npc's quite often, and the weekly/monthly challenges are a good way to just get into a game and try your hand without having to think too much about building that optimal character. I haven't even mentioned the cybernetics side of gameplay, which offers a different way to build a sort of 'Terminator' character that can enhance itself with new/better/other components and gadgets to dispatch of foes, both organic and inorganic (i.e. robots, machines).
For the price of $9.99, this developer deserves every cent of your hard earned money for the amount of enjoyment he has provided in this little gem still in Early Access at the time of this review. Also the developer discussion I think I saw in the community hub or maybe on youtube is a good video to watch if you're on the fence about buying it.

I'm not sure where to begin to review this wonderful game but I think I'll start by saying it's the survival game I always found myself looking for, and now I can't stop thinking about it!

I enjoy the way the game has a serious tone and the developers employ their heritage in a fun, and still very video game oriented, way. These combine to make a game that feels so authentic and like a breath of fresh air when you first play it; I found myself really wanting to learn how everything works so I could get a good base of operations going. Once I built my first log cabin, I felt like I had truly accomplished something as it took me a whole summer and a bit of autumn to complete. I spent the winter drying fish and berries, so that I could go trapping in the spring and next summer. And the way I worked towards that next goal I set for myself, I found the hours flying by and my settlement expanding.

At $11, it's really a steal for the amount of content you get and the developer(s) seem like good people; the DLC videos are a genuine treat and give my imagination something to visualize while I'm playing. An enjoyable and very affordable experience I'd recommend to anyone that likes roguelikes or survival games and can enjoy a slower paced game.

This expansion really revitalizes the game and I've been having quite a bit of fun with it.
I enjoy the more quirky side of this patch/ expansion and I think the way they've added the societies into the game doesn't blends well with the new UI improvements, which were abundant and I'm really happy about (mostly the alert for unused councillors).
This is a worthwhile and necessary addition to the game.

There's a lot to do and the combat is really strategical. Classes are really well done with a lot of synergy to be made.

I'd strongly recommend the game in it's entirety. The DLC, although expensive, have come out in an extended period of time and I kept up with it since first purchasing the game quite a few years ago. I don't have any issue with $15 or $20 once or twice a year to keep the dev's updating it to this point; that being said, I certainly understand the issue new players/people take with having to shell out hundreds of dollars to enjoy the full experience.

The gameplay is engaging and can require a lot of micromanagement, but if you're a fan of Grand Strategy then, in my opinion, this game is right up your alley.

This game has a great list of features that make it a compelling action-rpg, but the mutliplayer mechanics are what really stick out for me. I enjoy playing this with a buddy of mine and the synergy we can make through the classes really shines when you get to higher levels and harder fights. The graphics are very indicative of what's going on and leave nothing to be desired (imo), but the amount of detail that goes into the classes and the customization they allow really gives it some replay value. I'd suggest this game at full-price but if you see it discounted certainly don't pass it up and tell your friends. You'll have more fun that way.

This is the most nickel and dimed I've ever been by this company. Paying for something that practically comes standard in Elder Kings mods and plenty others, I'm appauled at how good these people really are at amassing shekels from DLC.
Edit: Still love the game as a whole and I'd pay full price for it again. I just feel that after all the DLC we've bought, why not just give something that seems should be standard in a histroical roleplaying game.
