So I have been playing this game now for what seems like a short amount of time but in actuality it must be closer to 90+ hours! Which for me is a good sign as it must mean I'm enjoying it.

So the premise is that we are Sam a lone courier (known as a porter) marching his way across a decimated Northern American continent after the Death Stranding has occurred. An event that has devastated the world whereby if living humans come into contact with the inter-dimensional beings from the realm of the dead known as BT's, a voidout happens, which is similar to a nuclear explosion leaving a crater and whole bunch of misery behind.

As you play Sam you get to meet new characters, some central to the story plot, others just there to receive and process you deliveries. While you go about your business you develop the Chiral chain in an effort to reconnect the country and make "America great again!" [they don't really say that but you get the gist]

The game moves on when you complete certain orders and is interspersed with gorgeous cinematics that keep you enthralled, entertained and puzzled as what the actual chuff is happening/did happen and why. The plot takes a weird left turn early on when you get an artificially life supported in utero baby which is in a bottle that you attach to yourself via some weird umbilical cord and then hang the bottle from the front of your suit. If you want to know why then you'll need to play the game and find out because I still, after playing this many hours, don't really know why... I mean I do know why but, not really...

Genuinely I would love to have been in the brainstorming meeting when the guys at Kojima pitched the story behind this game. There must have been some creative substances consumed because it's unique that's for sure. But, you know what, it's fantastic!

The graphics in this game are practically flawless, when you find yourself standing on top of a mountain with awesome views all you want to do is just take it in and maybe take a quick screenshot. The game play is engaging with plenty to do along side the main storyline missions that you need to complete.

This game also received the PC Gamer Game of the Year award 2020 and Most Innovative Game Play 2020 award from Steam and for me it's thoroughly deserved. This game is simply sublime and gets a 9.5/10 on the vosNET scale of excellence.

Early Access Review
The premise of this game is that you seem to need a job and you've packed ship breaking in orbit. It's cost and absolute shed load of creds to get you up there and now you have to break space ships apart in zero g to work off that debt.

I have to say this is actually a very addictive game. I find it quite relaxing after a day at work to just fire this up and break up some ships for an hours or so.

You start off with limited skill and access to the basic ships but as you get the hang of controlling yourself in zero g it starts to become second nature. Once you get your certifications up you get access to equipment upgrades and access to harder and large ships to break apart, each with varying difficulties to overcome.

As this game is on early release [at time of writing] it's not 100% feature complete. Some of the graphic textures still need a bit of work here and there but overall the game looks pretty decent and plays nice too.

It definitely takes a bit of practice to get it right but you'll be breaking apart ships in no time, getting your work orders completed and reducing that debt.

One slightly annoying thing though is that the backing music starts to get a little repetitive as it's the same country style guitar riff constantly without any variation. I found it cool at first but it gets a little old after a bit, so I tend to turn that down now and throw on some chillwave and just cut away at the ships to my hearts content.

I love space, sci-fi and puzzles so this game is right up my street and if you're like me and just like to have a chilled game that needs a little thinking and skill, this game would probably suit you too.

I'd give this an 8/10 on the vosNET excellence scale, but I'm sure with the extra bits coming soon and the inevitable polishing of the game this may even get up to a 9.

I can't tell you how much I love the first instalment back in the 90's... Must have been about 93, 94 I think... I love sci-fi, cyberpunk, and I love point-and-click adventure games. Especially ones with a great storyline and sense of humour. Beneath a steel sky ticked all of those boxes. Back then I was an Amiga A500 user and back then games came in boxes... Boxes filled with cool artworks and extras ahh those were the days. Anyway I still remember this box, black with just the silver skyline in shadow on to the box.

I used to look it up every now and then to see if there were any emulators I could use to play it again. I discovered a little while back that the sequel beyond a steel sky was in the making. Well I have been keeping an eye out for this to be released and now it's finally here.

So the game has finally landed and after playing it for a while I can say I am not disappointed. The plot is exactly what was wanted/needed from a sequel. You start off in the GAP, and our protagonist Robert Foster is witness to a child abduction and sets on the trail of the abductors which leads him back to Union City, where he'd left his trust robot sidekick Joey many years ago to turn the city into a utopia.

The gameplay feels good and I like the cartoon graphics, I think they feel nice and modern in this type of game. It's not the usual point and click type of control that I was expecting like beneath a steel sky and other games of this genre. Beyond a steel sky uses WSAD controls which isn't a bad thing at all as the game is now a 3D environment rather than the usual point and click 2D.

Overall the puzzles are not too complex but are challenging enough to keep you entertained whilst managing the inevitable frustration you get from being stuck in one place. In fact, there are even hints included in the pause menu if you were to get reaaaally stuck but most players used to this type of game won't need them. For me this game is excellent and a perfect sequel to its predecessor, well worth the wait and well worth grabbing a copy. 9/10 on the vosNET scale of excellence!
