The Division
The Division is a third-person tactical shooter RPG set in an open world. The Division was originally going to be a console game but Ubisoft listened to consumers as we signed a petition for the game to be designed on PC. Ubisoft stepped up and designed the PC version of the game from the ground up for PC.

Single Player
The Division has a detailed and interesting story. The game is set in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic in New York City. You are an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division. The Division is tasked with rebuilding its operations in Manhattan, saving citizens, investigating the outbreak to find a cure, and combating criminal activity. You will be given daily/weekly quests/achievements to complete as well as a detailed campaign to play thru. Although the game can be played thru the story solo if you choose, it truely shines in Co-op.

Co-Op
The division was designed for Co-op with up to a full team of four players. The Co-op gameplay is available right out of the gate for the entire game including PvPvE in the Dark Zone. Playing Co-op will increase the difficulty of instances by adding a higher number of AI and increasing the AI lvl, but offers teamwork which is often needed to complete challenges.

Co-Op instances have three difficulty modes, normal, hard, and challenge. Each game mode has a minimum gear score to enter but will often be extremely challenging for groups that barely meet that lvl. As you gear up the modes become easier but success is aways determined by teamwork.

The AI
The AI is fairly good and will hunt you down if they hear or detect your presence. However, the NPCs are bullet sponges so taking them out can be challenging at times when you are facing multiple high level elites. This game was designed to be a tactical co-op game and running solo or guns blazing can quickly result in death.

Multiplayer
The entire game is designed for Co-Op. PvP multiplayer can be found in the Dark Zone (PvPvE), Survival (Season Pass PvPvE), the Last Stand (Season Pass PvPvE), & 4v4 Skirmish (free 1.8). Because of the match making system, the Division can end up being frustrating if the group you are assigned does not feel you are a high enough level to play with them and remove you as you are loading in. This can happen often so be warned. Getting a group is not difficult but getting a good group can be challenging.

PvP is strickly in the instanced areas in the Dark Zone, Survival, the Last Stand, & Skirmish. The areas are filled with high level NPCs and named bosses that will make it a difficult to solo. The Dark Zone is set up with a DayZ styled PvPvE where players can assist you only to later kill you and take your loot. There are weekly objectives complete with videos used as briefings. The chief complaint about the dark zone is the lack of a quality anti-hack program and multiplayer support. Survival adds extreme weather and contagion.

Character
You play as one of the last Division agants in Manhattan. Your character has limited customizable options such as sex, ethnicity, and facial characteristics. You can also outfit your character with a extensive collection of visual costumes and gear with stats. The game is an RPG and as such you can expect to gain experience while playing to gain levels which will unlock skills and perks.

World
The Division is an open world with the only loading screens existing to get into an instanced area such as a raid, your base, and the dark zone. Every other area is seamless where you will see the area name and level as you enter it. The world looks amazing and is probably the best looking game I have every played and for an open world that is saying a lot.

Graphics
The graphics are AAA next generation and looks good on low settings. It runs smoothly on a GTX 950 or greater. The immersion level is incredible with this being one of the best looking open game worlds I have ever experienced. The graphics have been down graded from the demo shown at E3-2013, but still look fantastic.

Flaws
The game had a decent launch but also had some bugs that persisted thru several patches such as on startup the game resets to windowed mode. I fixed this by making my settings read only, but no one should have to do that to get a game to run properly. There are other bugs in the game but nothing game breaking and most have been fixed.

PROS
Graphics are AAA next-gen (best I've seen)
AI performs very well
Good single and Co-op options
Large open world

CONS
PvP is only offered in instanced zones (2 are season pass only)
AI are still bullet sponges
Player Base from some activities

Community Reception
The community reception was initially great but have tanked on Steam do to disappointments in mainly two areas. The first and biggest complaint about this game stems from the dark zone and lack of anti-cheat detection. Make no mistake this game is a single-player co-op game with a DayZ styled PvP element while in the Dark Zone or Survival only. What this is not is the 2013 E3 demo where the game looked as if it were going to be a Co-op RPG-PvPvE game at all times. The Dark Zone is very large and accomodates PvPvE very well, however, it is a disappointment to those expecting a large scale open world with the hightened state of fear of being taken out at any moment by a rogue every time you played.

The other main complaint was that the game was very grindy like an MMORPG. You had to grind several currencies to purchase gear or patterns to craft gear to compete in both PvE and PvP. Game changes has made this less of an issue. The game has a lot of content that can easily last several hundred hours.

Update
Update 1.1 is a free update that brings us Incursions, which are 4-man raid instances much harder than the typical operations. The patch also brings bug fixes to deliver a better gaming experience.

Update 1.2 Conflict, another free update, brings us another Incursion and updates to the dark zone to meet players' expecations. The update raises the gear score to 180 and brings Challenge Mode for incursions raising the bar of difficulty. The update also brings an update to the cheat detection system for the darkzone.

Update 1.3 (free) and The Underground (paid DLC) brings us updates to gear ilvl for Heroic Mode, a new incursion, and rebalancing of the game. For those with the season pass The Underground is an entirely new area to play in with new collectables.

Update 1.4 (free) includes imprvements include elimination of the grind which makes collecting gear much easier. Improvements to progression and basic weapons mechanics were made to improve the games feel and balance. World tiers are introduced with the top tier rewards at tier 4 (229 ilvl). Previous ilvl gear will be adjusted to match current tiers.

Update 1.5 (free) paves the way for the 2nd DLC expansion, Survival, where Dark Zone PvPvE has been expanded on to create a servival mode that is truely unique, fun, and challenging where you start with no gear and you must face the extreme weather, enemies, and players. This patch also introduces a new world tier 5.

Update 1.6 (free game update/balancing) and the 3rd expansion, The Last Stand, extends the dark zone and creates an 8v8 PvPvE game mode stretched across 4 darkzone maps. The patch also introduces Legendary difficulty with new exotic weapons and gear, and ladder boards for the dark zone.

Update 1.7 (free) adds achievements, masks, patches, and new gear sets.

Update 1.8 (free) adds new zones as Resistance, an instance, Skirmish (4v4 PvP), World Tier 5, & changes to Underground & Dark Zone.

Recommendation
This game is amazing and should be on anyone's list who is a fan of third-person tactical shooters. I am looking forward to The Division 2.
