Years ago when I first came across Dwarf Fortress it was because I was searching Google for a medieval city sim. Much as I love that game the lack of abstraction made it not quite what I was after. A few years back when Banished came on my radar it seemed like it would be what I was after, but it too ended up not quite scratching the right itch for various reasons. This game has, in a scant couple hours of gameplay, more or less shown itself to hit that sweet spot of being exactly what I was after all this time.
