Early Access Review
Short:

Hand of Fate is a weird concept that plays out surprisingly well. Very much unfinished and unpolished as of now, but the core concept is well done and people that enjoy games like FTL will probably get some fun out of this too. Fun, but there are caveats.

Long:

The Good:

The strange genre mix plays out surprisingly well, with the ability to influence your dungeon and the RNG parts by careful considerations. The fighting system is heavily influenced by batmans free flow. The voiceover and presentation is atmospheric and the unlock system itself is telling a story. There are many interesting items and effects that keep runs fresh even after failing coupled with the unlocks.

The Bad:

The combat is at times clunky, sometimes bordering unfair and the camera can get into weird angles. Some items and effects are poorly balanced and the RNG can really screw you over sometimes. The aesthetics are ok, but it's no AAA title of course. Restarting a run does takes 30 seconds because of the presentation, that should really be skippable (and sometimes the token animation). For some token encounters, you have not the slightest clue how to get them.

The Ugly:

Terrible optimization (as of now): some rooms and angles can make your framerate dip very significantly but it doesn't offer a proper graphics options menu, only presets. Also, for some reason it is a big memory hog (in excess of 2GB). I was unable to play the combat with KB+mouse as it didn't register the mouse buttons. Works fine with a controller, but that should work anyway. The key rebinding in the launcher is bad, listing controls for 9 gamepads (wtf?) and binding for attacks on KB+mouse didn't work for me.

Cheesy, challenging with a sense of humor spectacle fighter/brawler that is nicely over the top nonstop.

The port is ok, not bad, neither very well done.

Voice acting is more often bad, but adds to the cheesieness.

The campaign itself is rather short (~6-12 hours depending on difficulty/pace/skill), but has replay value and there are "VR missions" + console DLC is included.

TLDR: If you like action/brawler games, why do you not have it?
