This is the best one-handed game I've ever played. While the controls are as basic as can be (you could play this with a NES controller), its surprisingly deep and complex, both in build variety and difficulty. Weapons and items get stat bonuses and upgrades as they level up, which can be combined into stronger evolutions, with some even combining into a third tier evolution. There are dozens of characters to unlock with different starting weapons, stat growths, unique weapons, and specific gear drops that guide you down different build paths. Without spoiling anything, there's also multiple endings: you start out as a simple vampire slayer who eventually goes beyond the stars in true Conan fashion.

The DLC is of varying quality... I dislike almost all of the DLC weapons and the DLC characters are mostly gimmicks or reskins of previous characters. The base game has received so many updates that I don't know if its even worth getting the DLCs anymore except for achievements and more maps. Still, it's nice to see great enemy and tileset variety, and its always amusing to take Among Us characters into the early maps with their super straightforward Castlevania-esque tilesets.

I spent about 40 hours playing just the base game, and that was back closer to launch before the bevy of content updates that were added. You'll be hard pressed to find more bang for your buck than this. This spawned a new genre of copycats ("Bullet Hell" & "Auto Battler", definitely not VS-like) but the original is still king. Highly recommended, especially if you have a Steam Deck or something with similar haptic controls (like a phone) because this feels fantastic to play with the thumb pads.
