If CK2 is Incest Simulator, then EU4 is Map Painting Simulator.

Amazingly dynamic gameplay that is only held back by the aggressive DLC policy of Paradox. No two games are the exact same due to random elements in battles, events, and AI behavior which makes it feel like a whole new experience every time. The game also has plenty of mods to play on the workshop which improve quality of life or add new features to the game.

Try getting it while the game and DLC are on sale to get the most out of your money and be sure to see which DLC the community likes the most to improve your experience.

This review is positive overall, but not without criticisms, outlined in the second paragraph.

Got interested in this game after watching multiple streams of it on Twitch and was extremely happy about buying the game. A very diverse set of classes with a wide range of abilities ensures that the game stays relatively fresh from lobby to lobby. People will come up with entertaining RP names that give everyone a good laugh. A wide variety of classes and abilities also leads to a variety of metas, some being better than others. Community is generally friendly and welcoming if they see that you're new.

On the other hand, if you make a small mistake, vote the wrong person once in a game, or show any indication that you aren't new, there's a strong chance you get flamed until hell freezes over and are probably reported afterwards. When the community is toxic, it gets incredibly toxic. In addition, some metas can be very boring and unintuitive, especially if they revolve around passing off the burden to a single class. Updates tend to be spread out over long periods so it can be a while before new changes come out that change the meta of the game, for better or worse.

With all of that being said, I still do recommend the game if you enjoy doing any sort of deduction. Don't get discouraged if you don't know what in the world you're doing your first few games, it's tough to learn all of the interactions between abilities.
