Cyberpunk 2077 is genuinely an amazing all round game!

(Opinionated review based on release 2.0+ & Phantom Liberty)

CD PROJEKT RED set out with great ambitions for this game, Cyberpunk 2077 is a piece of art. The game has beautiful storytelling, fun cyberware & tech weapon combat, engaging mechanics, I absolutely love this game, I recommend it to anyone looking for a great story game with excellent combat. It starts off slow for combat, but when you upgrade and decide your build for your play style, it become great.

I can't say I'm not a little sad to think what this game could have been without the strict deadlines and crunch. Many things that I expected to be in the game simply never were finished, the "RPG" aspect really never made it in, this game is not an RPG in its current state. Your choices matter, but not enough where it actually changes as much as I'm assuming the devs planned to have. When I first started the game I thought that there would be more ops with team members, but there weren't, The way rogue talks to V when you ask for gigs feels like there may have been cut content there and just a little line put to explain away why we don't get to work with team members, not to mention that some definitely feel like they were supposed to have multiplayer initially, which we still haven't gotten and probably will never get even though I'd pay for another expansion for it.

The game is certainly worth its price, however, don't expect an RPG, expect a beautiful story game with an amazing open world and many gigs to do for hours on end.

If you do play, meeting Hanako at embers is the final mission, make sure to complete Rogue's storyline and Panam's storyline so you have the options at the end of the game :D

It’s a solid game, I quite enjoyed it.

Gunplay is excellent and addictive, variety of weapons and ammunition types, and upgrades allow for experimentation and increased effectiveness against different types of enemies.

Character perks are a bit underwhelming, the mass majority of them simply alter a statistic and offer little new. The dialogue tree can be frustrating not having enough points for an option that feels like it should be accessible regardless of the dependent skill level. There are some genuinely hilarious dialogue choices which somewhat make up for its flaws in my eyes.

Story-wise, it’s alright. It’s serviceable for the game but doesn’t compel much interest. I find the way the corporations run to be the most interesting part of the story. It really feels like the ending should be more impactful, there’s not a whole lot of build up, no fierce enemies, really not a whole lot. Despite fighting for the future of the colony I genuinely felt checked out. Instantly killed the primary under developments antagonists and proceeded.

The music in the game is pretty good, although I wish there was more heavy hitting music for intense battles.

The map and quest markers are okay but I’ve found in certain situations it misleads the player due to separate areas (behind loading screens) which results in you wasting five minutes trying to figure out which way to go. A ‘suggested path’ line would be a great way to remove this uncommon but still bothersome issue.

The characters are hit or miss, I quite like Ellie and Parvati. Both well voice acted. The quests to unite or destroy the factions were great. Level design is also good, very beautiful. Phineas is good as-well, I particularly like his reactions in the characters customization screen. I haven’t gone through with all six squadmates only 3 but I intend to on my next play-through

This game has a significant level of potential that it never captured, I am excited to see what Obsidian has in store for The Outer Worlds 2!

I recommend it to you if you enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas and/or are interested in a fun space FPS-RPG with a serviceable story. Also it does go on sale for pretty cheap occasionally, I’d suggest waiting for a sale before purchase.
