I've been playing and supporting this game since it was first released in early access. Even in it's current state, after full release, it still have many bugs and glaring issues. Sieges are still a buggy broken mess and I'm writing this review as my entire attacking force is standing on the enemy walls not moving while the scoreboard says there are 19 troops remaining.. Balance is and has always been a huge issue. The game lacks depth and RP aspects that even Warband had. The only thing that has kept this game alive is the wonderful modding community. Without modders, this game would have been dead on arrival.

The story is somewhat interesting, but the design is really really lazy. Inside of buildings are the same in each city, i.e. the taverns all look exactly alike. They use the same NPC model for multiple NPCs in the same location. The inn keep is the exact same guy as the merchant in San Matheus. There are lots of invisible walls and blocked off areas. This game has some good qualities, but the lazy design is too noticeable for me.

One of my favorite games of all time. It has an incredible modding community that makes the game extremely replayable.

This game does a terrible job of explain things in game for both mechanics and the story. If you don't use the wiki for every faction quest you will miss out on exclusive passives or skills. Some quests have a 3 day timer or you fail, but there is nothing in the game that indicates this. There are levers that open gates in other dungeons across the map, but nothing that indicates what or where the lever opened in game. You also can't destroy or sell certain items like food waste. The only way to get rid of certain items is to drop them somewhere outside of a town and wait for 7 days. The same thing applies to campfires except that if you place them in a town they will never disappear and you cannot remove them. There are also breaks/cracks in the map all throughout the game. The developers just recently released DLC for the game, yet they still have not fixed the numerous and obvious cracks in the map. The co-op is also one of the worst I have ever seen. There is little to no interaction between players other than reviving each other. Players that join another player's game cannot receive quest rewards or progress through any quest lines. I had fun playing this game with my friend, but we both agreed that there were so many problems with the game and we wouldn't be having fun if we weren't playing together.

This is one of the only games, possibly the first, that I have ever requested a refund for on steam. The controls are pretty terrible on keyboard and mouse. The game says it's best played on controller, but that doesn't really justify the awful controls if you are going to release it on PC. The tutorial is just awful. Most games you can figure out what you are doing pretty easily even without the tutorial, but this game is supposed to be about experimenting and discovery, but they do a really poor job telling you how to get started. I chose the immersive start (Full tutorial, minimal HUD) and didn't even realize I had a HUD at all because the game doesn't tell you how to bring it up (it's one of the arrow keys). Maybe that's just me, but there are a lot of unexplained mechanics that are essential to the game.

The game has a lot of points of interests when you go into the intelligence mode, but you have to be perfectly still to view them and you can't highlight ones behind you. Once you discover something, lets say a plant for example, you will unlock some features and information about the plant. The problem is that all the other plants of that type don't become discovered as a POI in intelligence mode. They remain a gray square until you focus in on it. I would have to compare it to scanning something in No Man's Sky, but instead of scanning the plant once you have to scan every single plant on the planet.

Lastly I have to talk about the climbing/jumping mechanics. Imagine every time you've played Assassins Creed and your character didn't go the way you wanted him to or he jumped and didn't grab onto anything causing you to fall to your death. Now imagine that x10 in the jungle. What really makes it bad is as you watch all the branches fly by that you're not grabbing you realize that when you hit the ground your clan will lose another valuable member to poor game mechanics. Then you get to stare into the eyes of your lifeless corpse while the game autosaves.

Overall I think this game could have a lot of potential and it's an interesting concept, but the execution of it is very poor and not worth the $20 I spent let alone $40 at full price.

An extremely fun game, but not for the faint of heart. The community is easily the most toxic I have encountered among any game I've ever played, but there are a few good people you can find. If you are knew to the game or if you play by yourself you should expect to die and lose everything or get raided a lot. This game has a large learning curve, but once you get the hang of it it can be tons of fun.

Early Access Review
I really like this game, but it has some serious issues with it. I know it is still in Alpha, but for $24.99 it should not have this many issues. Luckily I bought the game on sale, but still. It has some really neat aspects to the game, like having different gods and their set powers, but most of the time the powers don't actually work. Another huge issue is the goblins not taking care of their basic needs. Sometimes they freeze to death, because they are busy doing other things and never find time to warm up. Other times they starve to death even if you have food. Overall, the game is fun and I would recommend playing it, but try not to pay full price or at least wait till it is further along.
