Shieven succeeds in SO many ways! This is the dev's first game which I find SO impressive! The atmosphere (especially around THOSE experiments), the creature design, the puzzles, and how the game looks are all wins. There is plenty of lore to pick up to discover the story as the game unfolds. The puzzles are challenging and rewarding and the jump scares were nicely placed and fun as well.

However, where the game TRULY shines is in the chase sequences. There is JUST enough time to escape the danger you are in, and it creates such an amazing and terrifying sense of urgency and horror.

I do want to note that there is an epileptic mode, which is amazing! We love dev’s who include accessibility settings!

There was one puzzle that made me think harder than I am usually capable of, and I somehow brute forced it instead solving it. There was an area at the end of the game where the main character was consistently clipping through wall- but neither of these things were overwhelmingly distracting or insurmountable.

Even if this was not the dev's first game, I would give it a positive review. I beat the game in roughly 2.5 hours, which is great as person who creates Indie Horror content. You can check out my full play through, or use my video to assist you with puzzles here!

I would like to thank the dev for showing up and giving us helpful tips as we played (You can see the last photo you took in the pause menu, at the bottom right!) Thank you so much, Velicron Innovation for the chance to play your game!

Tainted Pact never misses! BUT Massacre at the Mirage is on its own level in my opinion. The only thing I knew about going into the game was that it was similar to an 80s slasher film, and that there is a Killer Clown terrorizing a movie theater during a Halloween Midnight Horror Screening. The game DELIVERS on its promise. The horror, the humor, the music, and the tropes are all there! Incredibly well done! This may be my new fave horror game of all time!

While it is true that this game has a few issues (primarily, that hitting escape in the beginning of the game causes a game-breaking bug). There were also some issues with slightly phasing through assets- for instance, leaning on the house causes you to see the inside of the house when you are not supposed to. ALSO, this might be a bug only I found, but if you attempt to do portions of the game out of order, it can cause you to "fall" endlessly in a developer scene.

With that being said, I REALLY enjoyed the game and am so impressed that this is Nebula Nova's First game!! I have played first games that were completely uninteresting or entirely broken. The game is atmospheric, had nice jump scares, and I love that the real horror is that to own a house as a millennial, you have to sell your soul to the devil. I also loved how sections of the game looked, especially the area underneath the house! (Trying to keep it spoiler free!)

I am super excited to see what else these developers may come up with! Thank you Lurkit and Nebula Nova games for letting me play your game! This is a great start to the addition of Indie Horror games!
