Absolutely amazing game. If you're looking to get into IWBTG fangames start here. There's content for all skill levels, from complete beginners to the very best (since the very best have uploaded some cursed difficult maps). There's no shortage of quality maps, and the campaign alone would be worth even purchasing the game for, but it's free! I recommend starting with the campaign, as it is a good introduction to all the types of gimmicks that are present in these types of games, and warms you up nicely as there are a fair amount of checkpoints if you're looking to progress.

There's also challenge modes that give you random user-made levels which is an aspect I don't really recommend unless you're feeling lucky and want to experience a random level from hell, but everything else about the game completely outshines that part and you're free to browse custom levels with a robust search engine that lets you filter by type of level, clear rate, and popularity so you can find hundreds of levels of the type of gameplay you enjoy, of the right difficulty for you, with a desired level of quality. It's great!

Highly recommend checking it out :)

Most of the classics I've played have aged fairly well to very well. Whatever this remaster is has not. I haven't played the original so I don't have on nostalgia goggles and am reviewing based on my experience with this version of the game.

What a buggy mess of a game. I played a lot of point and clicks games earlier this year and enjoyed most of them, even the ones dating back close to when this released. Grim Fandango suffers from a lot of the issues the older point and clicks had such as nonsense puzzles and clunky inventories and gameplay. Don't get me wrong, the story, style, and humor are excellent, and I do enjoy those aspects. But the gameplay is just so so dated now. Not only is it dated, but it's absolutely riddled with bugs and situations that seem like softlocks. Sometimes my character just decides to start rotating around the center point of the walk animation, so it looks like he's sliding everywhere clipping into walls. This happens often, and it happens with other characters too. One character I talked to couldn't start shifting back and forth into reality. Then there's the timing-related puzzles...these are atrocious because even when you figure out what to do and feel like there should be a sense of reward there, there isn't.

There have been a few times where I tried to do something, looked at a guide, realized what I was doing was perfectly right, and that the puzzle is just finicky. One example of this is a section in the first chapter where you have to lure something and then use another item at the right time to essentially get it out of the way. However, every time I tried to do so, the creature I was trying to lure just walked in place for 5 minutes looking like a broken NPC from Skyrim. At random, it would get unstuck and then screech before I had the opportunity to get rid of it. What makes it worse is that the navigation system completely breaks down during this time and you can't look at your inventory or walk to another screen, so if you are between luring the thing and getting rid of it, you can't do anything. It's especially confusing since you still have the prompts that make it seem like you can walk away, it just doesn't let you or communicate anything. Since the creature was walking in place for what felt like forever, I had thought I was softlocked and only realized when I left the game open and the creature finally got lured when I wasn't paying attention minutes later. That's just one instance of broken and awkward puzzles, Don't get me started on the awful forklift section where trying to get off the forklift causes it to spin around everywhere. I can't even begin to describe how bad it is since you're trying to get off a forklift on an elevator, but because the room is so tight, it doesn't let you position it properly and ends up bugging around and flying/shifting through walls when you try and get off it, ruining the very specific alignment you have to make for some reason.

If you haven't played it before, it's not really worth playing now since the horrendous gameplay makes revealing the story and lore a huge annoyance. If you have played it before, don't ruin your nostalgia. Get The Blackwell Legacy series or something else instead, it's way better.

This is one of those hidden gems of a platforming game that I was lucky to come across. Robbie Swifthand is a trap platformer where the goal in each level is to get an orb to throw at a certain location to unlock the exit. Trap games like IWBTG and Cat Mario are old concepts that are not really seen too often for some reason, but this game does it right. Every level is a test of memory, precision, and timing, and every level feels rewarding to beat. I haven't really played a lot of trap platformers and I thought I wouldn't like it that much due to the inherent trial and error, but I had a blast. The bosses are quite challenging too, but not too frustrating considering platformer bosses tend to be not so great in general. Instead, they're satisfying as well as having great songs to accompany them.

It has some depth to the control that takes some learning, but since you have to beat worlds to unlock new abilities, it introduces them gradually to you. At first you can only jump, crouch jump, ledgegrab, and throw. Later on you get a double jump and then a short horizontal hover, and the levels make good use of your abilities.

Overall a fun experience. Even the few parts that were a bit awkward (minecart levels) I really looked forward to, because although it is hard to control, the levels were a nice change of pace and fun to play still.

I don't often review like this, but this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The level design is trash. The movement is very momentum based, but it feels sluggish and delayed, like I'm playing a 20fps game at 60fps. This is heavily emphasised with levels with moving/dropping platforms over bottomless pits, and the boss rush at the end is absolute garbage to even pass with checkpoints. One interesting thing that it does is include a homing attack, but it's too bad it's implemented just as poorly as the rest of the game. The music is good, but that's about it. Somehow this game retains all the negatives of previous 2D Sonic games, and just adds a bunch more. The main one being that you can often get blasted by something you can't see yet, which is an impressive feat considering how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow Sonic moves in this game, even when you're tech-dashing around.

It's honestly embarrassing that SEGA ever released this; I've played a handful of bottom of the barrel indie platformers that still felt better than this.

Beautiful game. It's a first person puzzle game where the focus is on exploration and gravity puzzles. It's not a very long game, as I found that the difficulty of puzzles are low compared to other similar first person puzzle games. However, it's still a very satisfying game that is quite enjoyable to go through and experience. I thought it'd be pretty open-ended when seeing the trailer and first playing, but it's actually quite a linear game with well-defined puzzles that it guides you towards without holding your hand, allowing for the figuring out of different mechanics as you get further in the game. As far as replayability goes, it doesn't seem like there's much, though there's an alternate route through the game that I haven't done yet that would provide another unique playthrough.

Worth the sale price.

Excellent collection of some Game Boy classics! I never played these ones back in the day but I've always been a fan of the old school jrpgs despite their often grindy and cryptic nature. Playing these today for the first time and felt that they still hold up for classic rpg lovers.

The games really did some unique things for the time period, from 4th wall breaking futuristic stories to intricate class systems I haven't really seen before even today in 2023! As far as I know these are almost exactly the same as the original games with some minor changes for copyright reasons etc. Well worth the asking price and I especially feel like it was worth the purchase when I got the collection 50% off during sales.

I won't describe the games in much detail since most people know what they're getting into with these. But basically, the first game is grindy to start but balances out near the end, and a moderate challenge. 2nd game improves on a lot of questionable design of the first game and is more balanced near the beginning too. However, it can be a bit grindy near the end and the last few dungeons and bosses are brutal. The 3rd game is by a different development team and is also the most traditional jrpg of the bunch. It's more like a standard final fantasy game than a SaGa game, though enjoyable of course. This one seems to be the most balanced but also more casual; you'll be absolutely swimming in gold the whole game no matter what you do/buy.

Well worth it!

Great sokoban game that plays with the idea of nested boxes with a lot of really clever interactions. There are a lot of puzzles (364), with a lot of them being pretty short or simple to introduce ideas, but there's still a good challenge especially in the postgame challenge levels.

Recommended! Plenty of content and a lot of the puzzles are well designed. Would be even better with custom levels.

Early Access-recension
One of my favorite rhythm games that I've ever played, if not my favorite. All of the music is amazing and is charted really well. The gimmicks aren't overdone and keep surprising you. There's a story even, and it's actually quite good as well! A lot of rhythm games rely on fast notes for difficulty, but Rhythm Doctor brings a unique challenge in that even the slower songs are tricky because of the complex layered rhythms you get to listen to and try to parse, but it's learnable at any skill level.

One of the best. If you like rhythm games or are even remotely interested in them, you will enjoy this.

Probably the best puzzle game I ever played.

I'm a big fan of sokoban games especially ones with interesting interactions such as Chip's Challenge. In Baba Is You, the rules of the game are the blocks you can push, resulting in some crazy puzzles. Not only is the idea really innovative and unique, but the sheer quantity and quality of puzzles is amazing. It is a very hard game, but it still has a pretty good learning curve as there are easier levels spread throughout to teach you how certain blocks work, and then further levels to get you to question that. Many advanced levels build on things you did to solve previous levels, so if you're ever stuck (and you will be), there are always plenty of other levels to play around with and think about.

I don't recommend using a solution guide for any puzzle game, but for Baba Is You, I REALLY don't recommend it. My mind was blown so many times while playing through and it is an incredibly satisfying experience. Just when you think you've seen it all, the game gets even deeper. For the best experience, do as much as you can without any outside help. I had to come back months later to recharge my brain and then when I started to make a certain amount of progress, I couldn't stop playing. In fact, I skipped dozens of levels and had to go back to them later because I just kept getting pulled further and further in a different direction :) If you're really stuck on a specific puzzle for hours and hours, there's a very helpful no-spoiler hint site that I recommend, but I only recommend it for specific puzzles that you're currently accessing. It orders the hints in terms of helpfulness too, so it helps to confirm if you're thinking about the level in a good way. Try to avoid hints on where to go next though, as doing so may sour the experience. Explore!

Not only does the main game have a staggering amount of well-designed levels, but there are free official level packs that add new interactions, objects, and levels. There is also a level editor, and since the community is so huge and full of very clever puzzle designers, there is practically an endless amount of content.

I'm writing this review before I'm truly done the game, but having experienced a good majority of it. Some puzzles are just so insanely hard to think about and I feel like I can keep coming back to this game whenever I need a puzzle, even after the main game. Hopefully the Scenic Pond will fall eventually :^)

Highly recommended!

On a first glance, this looks like a forgettable low effort game. However, what you'll find is one of my favorite 3D 'platforming' type games. You control a bar of soap, so naturally, you are very slippery. You can slide around surfaces, and 'sprint' as long as you have stamina remaining. There is no jump button, but the level designs do indeed have a lot of verticality and clever design. It is hard to master, and getting 5 stars on the extra stage was one of the most daunting and satisfying deathless runs I've ever done, and I was happy the whole time playing this game, vibing to the relaxing OST. It is much harder than it looks, with nuances in the orientation of the platforms that cannot quite be captured by a video. For example, there was one section I thought seemed reasonable, with 2 flat planks sliding back and forth. It turns out, the planks had ridges all along and it was downhill, requiring some good balance to stay on.

It is admittedly not for everyone, but I found it to be an enjoyable experience, plus you can play online with your friends and cheer them on using cute emotes. I think the first few levels can be enjoyable to anyone, especially with friends. Definitely worth the rather inexpensive price tag :)
