Karl would approve of this.

(edit)
...okay, I've played >400 more hours since this review, I should probably say a little more about it. But there are so many things that this game does right, that it's hard to distill into less than an essay.
I think my favorite thing would have to be the vibe. It can be a difficult game (if you wish), but never a toxic one. There is no PVP, it's entirely PVE. There is always something to grind for, but never any stakes, so there's no real stress to bog down the fun.

But most importantly, the voice lines truly elevate the experience, more than any game I can recall. You might not think so, but there's a special charm of being a very stereotypical set of dwarves working for a dystopian mining corporation... in space. And because there is no storyline, the voice lines are entirely responsible for building these characters. And by the beard, they do.

From the first couple missions that you ever play, you quickly pick up on the tone of the humor, as well as the sort of hive-mind camaraderie that the whole community shares. Do we like gold and mushrooms? Yes. Do we like elves? Absolutely not. Do we like to rock and stone? To the bone, brother.

As I said, I could go on and on. I could bring up how any combination of teams or class builds is perfectly viable, balanced yet dynamic. I could mention how all in-game content is free, like their battle pass, or how nothing is time-limited, like their seasonal content. The list would keep going as long as you want. But really, at the end of the day, it's the vibe that keeps bringing me back. It's the perfect game to wind down with after a tough day. I like falling into these simple dwarven personas, who just want to shoot bugs, drink beer and enjoy mining with the boys.
