This is the game for you if you want to get Serial Experiments Lain'd

This game is required reading, if you play VRChat, imo.

Also... only visual novel I've committed to. Just serve drinks and save lives.

There is a great warmth to this soundtrack that get me through the day, both in game and real life. Really well paced and just the right level of softness. Not too tragic, not too energetic. A consistent feeling of "good".

I have rewritten my attempted review over a dozen times, but all I want to say is...

It do be good.

Definitely for Sonic Adventure heads and people who did think Sonic Boom was funny.

Even though I like this game and will probably play it past the 3 month long season 1... I gotta say no for someone who is looking for a longer term experience.

TLDR: Genuinely fun if you can appreciate that asymmetrical games, to this degree (1 v 7), will never be traditionally balanced nor competitive. Also you are probably paying early-access for a game that is designed to be a gacha F2P and somewhat P2W game. I assume it will be F2P in a year.

I genuinely enjoy this game as a fun arcade experience with randos. Even if I lose on the survivor team, it's fun to play as my OC and see if we can evade/objective-own/beat-up Freezer. Even if I lose as Cell, it feels real good to be drastically more powerful and put at least a few survivors out of the game.

This game will never be "balanced" because it assumes survivors only communicate through emote stamps. It also will never be competitive unless some glorious third-party programmer creates a lobby browser with some voice chat integration using discord/mumble/ventrillo/microsoft teams.

However, I assume it will be F2P in a year, because of it's biggest flaw.

You play gacha for characters, moves, and costumes. You can purchase currency to do more gacha. When you get duplicate gacha sets, you get points to power up skills and moves. If you are a gacha addict, you'll have plenty of points to upgrade your skills. I don't know yet if there's a cap on these things (allowing comments for corrections).

Might as well make it F2P because smaller paid games like these tend to not have a great population after year and that would discourage making purchases from the currency store.

Still, it's a short time sink per individual game and it's a fun small arcade experience. I'll pay $20 for that for a game I assume will last for half a year assuming a second round of updates over 6 months.

You do need to be into the "cats are cute" thing, because as a cat person, I probably would genuinely enjoy this game less if it was made with a dog as the player.

But this game has reminded me of the experience of playing the Half Life episodes. A concise, but well thought out and well paced, single player experience that's willing to leave the player to wonder about the deeper details of the world you experience.

First boss is a giant spider with ASMR leg walking sounds?
